Google has released an open AI model called Gemma, which it says is created using the same research and technology that was used to build its Gemini AI models. The company says Gemma is its contribution to the open community and is meant to help developers "in building AI responsibly." As such, it also introduced the Responsible Generative AI Toolkit alongside Gemma. It contains a debugging tool, as well as a guide with best practices for AI development based on Google's experience.

The experimental AI feature is available in English for US-based Chrome users, providing suggestions for completing online reviews, forms, messages, and more.

Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google said on Friday it will update Bard, its generative artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot, to help people write code to develop software, as the tech giant plays catch-up in a fast-moving race on AI technology.

Last month, the company started the public release of Bard to gain ground on Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O).

The release of ChatGPT, a chatbot from the Microsoft-backed startup OpenAI, last year caused a sprint in the technology sector to put AI into more users' hands.

Google is finally releasing Bard, its competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT, to a limited test group.

As AI slowly creeps it way into every facet of our digital lives — from essay writing to conversations with therapists to the generation of original art — it's the least bit surprising that artificial intelligence would also take a step into music. It's also not surprising that tech giant Google would be the first major player on the scene.

The company is reportedly building an AI bot that can create "original" music(Opens in a new window) from both text and sound prompts — users would be able to type in increasingly specific prompts noting genres and styles or even build songs based on a hummed or whistled melody, according to reports. The future app is known in-house as MusicLM.

Google is buying cybersecurity company Mandiant in an all-cash transaction valued at approximately $5.4 billion.

Mandiant’s operations, which draw on the work of more than 600 security consultants and more than 300 intelligence analysts, will be folded into Google Cloud to create an “end-to-end security operations suite.” A range of services will be offered, from consulting on cybersecurity to detecting upcoming threats and testing company’s digital defenses.

What is Google Gemini?
Gemini is a new and powerful artificial intelligence model from Google that can understand not just text but also images, videos, and audio. As a multimodal model, Gemini is described as capable of completing complex tasks in math, physics, and other areas, as well as understanding and generating high-quality code in various programming languages. 

It is currently available through integrations with Google Bard and the Google Pixel 8 and will gradually be folded into other Google services.

Lundi, Google a présenté son service expérimental de chatbot IA, Bard. Il s'agit bien évidemment de la réponse du géant au rival ChatGPT d'OpenAI. Le chatbot IA de Google sera testé par un nombre restreint d'utilisateurs avant d'être proposé au grand public dans les deux prochaines semaines.

Bard est alimenté par le modèle linguistique pour les applications de dialogue (LaMDA) de Google et s'appuiera sur toutes les informations du web pour fournir des réponses. C'est en soi un facteur de différenciation important par rapport à ChatGPT, qui ne peut accéder aux informations que jusqu'en 2021 et n'a pas accès au web.

Le moteur de recherche vient justement de présenter MusicLM, sa dernière IA en date. À la différence de ChatGPT son point fort n’est pas dans l’écriture, mais dans la création musicale. Le 26 janvier dernier, un document de recherche de l’entreprise expose le projet au grand public. MusicLM serait ainsi un « modèle générant de la musique haute fidélité à partir de descriptions textuelles ».

Selon ses créateurs, cette IA serait capable de créer de la musique « sur plusieurs minutes » sans « perdre en cohérence ». Google avait déjà parlé de ce projet par le passé et plusieurs exemples de musique développée par l’IA ont été rendus publics par la marque elle-même sur son compte Github.

Google has silently acquired a widely-used K-12 data and analytics company.

The tech giant confirmed, in an email to EdSurge, that it's picked up BrightBytes for an undisclosed amount.

The acquisition does not appear to have been publicly announced. And Google declined to provide any details, including when the sale had taken place.

But an email about the deal sent by Google to a school district in early May, obtained by EdSurge, cites May 17th as the expected date of the transaction.

The acquisition will help Google to transform school district data “into actionable intelligence to improve the academic and overall well-being of all students,” the email says.

It also states that Google might have updated the policy and privacy terms of use after the acquisition.
