Omnispace and Lacuna Announce Collaboration to Deliver Global LoRaWAN® IoT Service

Omnispace and Lacuna Announce Collaboration to Deliver Global LoRaWAN® IoT Service | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it

IoT network will be first to offer commercial LoRaWAN® direct-to-satellite connectivity

TYSONS, VA. – March 9, 2021 – Omnispace, the company reinventing mobile communications, today announced an agreement with Lacuna Space to collaborate on the distribution of a ground-breaking internet of things (IoT) service.

The collaboration will enable the commercial launch of a first-of-its-kind, global, open standards-based IoT network. The service will employ the LoRaWAN® protocol to support direct-to-satellite communications for a broad range of IoT devices. The protocol will utilize the LR-FHSS technology -- specifically designed for high-capacity IoT networks -- with on- orbit operation validated by Lacuna through several years of non-geostationary satellite testing and optimization. Leveraging Omnispace’s licensed, 2GHz S-band spectrum rights, and integrating Omnispace and Lacuna infrastructure, the service will allow devices to connect seamlessly between existing terrestrial networks and previously un-connected regions around the globe.

Nokia acquires SpaceTime Insight, adding AI to its Internet of Things business | #Acquisitions #IoT | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it

Nokia last week said that it was selling off its digital health business, after failing to develop it into a substantial business itself, but this week the Finnish company is announcing an acquisition that underscores how it is doubling down in another one of its business areas, the Internet of Things. Nokia has acquired SpaceTime Insight, a California-based IoT startup that provides predictive analytics based on machine learning algorithms.

Terms of the deal are not being disclosed, Bhaskar Gorti, president of Nokia Software, said in an interview. The startup had raised between $50 million and $65 million in funding (based on figures from Crunchbase and PitchBook), and PitchBook last estimated its valuation at just over $103 million in 2016. Backers of the startup included the energy giant E.ON, Novus Energy Partners, Zouk Capital and more.

Estimote Creates An Indoor Location System Using Beacons And “Nearables” | Wearables | Iot | IoE | Internet of Things | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it
The dream of indoor location sensing has always been just that – a dream. The difficulty of Wi-Fi tracking and other technologies has made it hard for anyone – from businesses to regular users – to figure out where they were in a venue. But the folks at Estimote, a Polish beacon company, may have just cracked the code.

Using something they are calling “Nearables” as well as standard Beacon technology, the company is now able to track people and objects in a building. What does this mean? First, you won’t be able to be tracked without your permission but once you’re on the network you’ll be able to see where you are on a map, identify objects anywhere in a venue, and even see where your friends and co-workers are anywhere in the building. Think of Harry Potter’s Marauder’s Map without the ability to track cats (unless you stick a nearable to them.)

The system works by triangulating your device’s location via three or more beacons. You can try out the new indoor location app here and read a bit more about it here. Recently the company announced a partnership with Target that will bring indoor location to stores over the next few years.

EU-Kommission plant neue Regulation für mehr Sicherheit im Internet der Dinge | #CyberSecurity #IoT | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it

| Scoop.it

Research team develops ultrathin, transparent oxide thin-film transistors for wearable display

Research team develops ultrathin, transparent oxide thin-film transistors for wearable display | 21st Century Innovative Technologies and Developments as also discoveries, curiosity ( insolite)... | Scoop.it

With the advent of the Internet of Things (IoT) era, strong demand has grown for wearable and transparent displays that can be applied to various fields such as augmented reality (AR) and skin-like thin flexible devices. However, previous flexible transparent displays have posed real challenges to overcome, which are, among others, poor transparency and low electrical performance. To improve the transparency and performance, past research efforts have tried to use inorganic-based electronics, but the fundamental thermal instabilities of plastic substrates have hampered the high temperature process, an essential step necessary for the fabrication of high performance electronic devices.
