Scoop.it joins Linkfluence to become a leading global social intelligence company | #Curation #ContentCuration #Acquisitions | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

At the end of 2017, we took a new step and launched our content intelligence solution. Our ambition was to go further than filtering the web. We wanted to use artificial intelligence to analyze the tens of millions of content sources that we crawl with Scoop.it. In doing so, we aimed at better understanding the topics this content is about and derive meaningful and data-driven insights for marketers.

This shift has driven us to the next big thing: today, I’m super excited to let you know that Scoop.it has been acquired by Linkfluence, a leading social listening company.

Why are we doing this?

Like Scoop.it, Linkfluence has built technology to crawl, index, and analyze content through artificial intelligence. But while Scoop.it focuses on online media content such as blogs, news sites, or video platforms, Linkfluence focuses on social listening to help marketers understand their customers and the perception they have of their brands. To do that, Linkfluence analyzes and filters hundreds of millions of public conversions on the social Web every day. Of course, given this volume of data, artificial intelligence such as natural language processing – a type of which Scoop.it has been working on – is critical. Combining both R&D teams will help Linkfluence go faster building the next generation of AI models to derive meaning from the social Web.

Another thing Scoop.it will bring Linkfluence is a US presence. While Linkfluence has been tremendously successful with global brands in Europe and Asia, it still needs to set foot in the US. The Scoop.it HQ in San Francisco will become the first US office for Linkfluence, enabling it to serve the group’s clients all across the world from 6 offices: London, Paris, Düsseldorf, Singapore, Shanghai, and now San Francisco.

Curating yourself in social learning spaces: adding value

Curating yourself in social learning spaces: adding value | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Our reputation, our value within social learning spaces, is based upon our ability to do more than just churn information. We need to be able to find things out, but we need to be able to do things with that information, and we need to be able to change our stance and style according to the situation.

===> One size no longer fits all: we are in a constant state of flux and only the agile will thrive. <===

It’s about the storytelling, not just the facts

Aleshia Clarke's curator insight, June 13, 2013 10:22 AM

My sister refuses to use social media, but she allows my niece to use it unsupervised. Not only is that dangerous, but it is also a lost opportunity to interact within her daughter's social life. This is particularly important to a single mom who works overtime to make ends meet. It doesn't require a huge time commitment; just having a "presence" on Facebook would be sufficient. I feel that my niece is not getting "enough" of her mother. Perhaps she would be less prone to create online drama if my sister was there listening in and guiding her.

Holism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Holism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Holism (from á˝…λος holos, a Greek word meaning all, whole, entire, total), is the idea that natural systems (physical, biological, chemical, social, economic, mental, linguistic, etc.) and their properties, should be viewed as wholes, not as collections of parts. This often includes the view that systems somehow function as wholes and that their functioning cannot be fully understood solely in terms of their component parts.[1][2]

Gust MEES's insight:

WE must see (realize) that there is more than "YES" and "NO", more than "BLACK" and "WHITE", more than "DAY" and "NIGHT"! There is a LOT between them!

I actually go so far to say that there is a need for "Quality Thinking" in the 21st Century! And with the use of the Internet WE should ALSO realize that both are "Interdependent, one is influencing each other, therefore a holistic view is necessary and "Holism" needs to get taught by Education...

===> Holism means ALSO to be able to see the "Interdependence" between different Topics! <===

Natalie Letcher's comment, September 21, 2013 4:40 PM
We are slowly returning to a holistic worldview, which the modern world sorely needs to reclaim. Yet holism is an ancient worldview, and holistic thinking a perennial ancient art, documented as far back as ancient Egypt.

I think all ten are essential skills not just for the future they're also highly relevant now Two skills are implied I would make them specific They would be self-awareness/appreciation and awareness/appreciation of others

Cool stuff. Nice to see other than technical skills, working often with high techs or engineering companies who tend to put too much focus on technical stuff. Many of these really appeal to me - but do not yet provide real job opportunities. Probably just need to be patient then...

Sociology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sociology - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Sociology is the scientific study of human society[1] and its origins, development, organizations, and institutions.[2] It is a social science which uses various methods of empirical investigation[3] and critical analysis[4] to develop a body of knowledge about human social activity, structures, and functions.

A goal for many sociologists is to conduct research which may be applied directly to social policy and welfare, while others focus primarily on refining the theoretical understanding of social processes. Subject matter ranges from the micro level of individual agency and interaction to the macro level of systems and thesocial structure.[5]

A school in the cloud: Sugata Mitra accepted the TED Prize at TED2013

A school in the cloud: Sugata Mitra accepted the TED Prize at TED2013 | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Sugata Mitra is named the TED Prize winner at TED2013. He shares his wish—for a school in the cloud that encourages self-learning.

Mitra has a history of research to back up this wish. In 1999, he began what he calls his “hole in the wall” experiment. He carved a hole in a wall in a Delhi slum — about three feet high — and placed a computer in it. Kids had gathered around within a matter of hours and asked Mitra questions about what this thing was. He responded “I don’t know,” and walked away.

===> Soon the kids were surfing the internet — and teaching each other how to do it more effectively. <===

Mitra repeated the experiment 300 miles away, where computers even less familiar. He installed a mysterious computer on the side of a road. A few months later, he returned and found kids playing games on it.

Remembers Mitra, “They said, ‘We want a faster processor and a better mouse.’”

Another thing these kids said that was music to his ears:

“You’ve given us a machine that works only in English, so we had to teach ourselves English.”

Mitra says, “It was the first time I heard the words ===> ‘teach ourselves’ <===  said so casually.”

Gust MEES's insight:

That's ... and merits all RESPECT!!! Hat down for that!

Business Should Focus on Sociality, Not Social "Media"

Business Should Focus on Sociality, Not Social "Media" | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Would anyone care if your business died tomorrow?

Hence, let me advance a tiny thesis: I believe that every kind of institution — business or otherwise — today carries not just a social responsibility, but an existential responsibility. A responsibility not just to society — but to life itself; and further, to the art of living. An obligation to elevate what's worthy, good, and true in every life; a duty not just to "serve" people as "consumers", but to better people as humans; a calling not merely to "deliver" — but to matter.
Gust MEES's insight:

I agree completely: the nail hit right on the head!
