Who respects our rights and privacy? - TOS - Clickwrapped | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Welcome to Clickwrapped — the web's report card

Whenever we use a website, we agree (sometimes without knowing it) to legal agreements such as terms of service and privacy policies. There are many clauses in these agreements that deserve our close attention. For example, what can the site can do with content we post? When can it disclose our personal information?

But they are hard to read and it is difficult to know how one social network, search engine, or photo sharing site compares to another. Clickwrapped analyzes the policies and practices of leading consumer websites and grades each company according to how well it respects your rights.

Even if we know we are going to be traced with social media and all types of search engine, and if we have the choice not to use social media, it is difficult to unfollow this new way of communication and search.

Galileo: 100 Sekunden: Nutzungsrechte im Internet

Galileo: 100 Sekunden: Nutzungsrechte im Internet | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Who Owns Your Digital Content? Hint: Not You

Who Owns Your Digital Content? Hint: Not You | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Most of us don't bother reading legal terms before accepting them. But did you know that don't own all the digital content you bought on Amazon or iTunes?

Well, the natural answer is of course “Me. I bought it.”. Wrong, Apple’s and Amazon’s terms of service only grant you “nontransferable” rights to use content on up to five devices. And while this does not really affect you during your lifetime it gets tricky the moment you are pushing up the daisies. As you don’t own the content in your account you cannot give it away, either. In an analog world it was your spouse or your children who came into the joy of your rare LP or book collection. Not so in the digital age.

===> Your heirs won’t get access to the songs, albums, movies or books in your library. <===

Terms of Service; Didn't Read

Terms of Service; Didn't Read | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Nobody wants to read the long Terms of Service many websites have. But it is important to understand what they say – these ratings make it easier.

The French law student Hugo Roy has therefore set up a platform that decreases the users just that: It's called: „Terms of Service-didn´t read“ and YOU should read it...!!!

“I have read and agree to the Terms” is the biggest lie on the web. We aim to fix that.

We are a user rights initiative to rate and label website terms & privacy policies, from very good Class A to very bad Class E!!!
