Innovate My School - How to develop effective edtech integration | #ModernEDU #ICT #Pedagogy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

Technology is bringing a holistic, radical change to the new generations’ life. The learners that we currently have in schools are those who Snapchat their daily life experiences, YouTube their practices and share their voices by tweeting; they have the world at the tips of their fingers.“The fear is that digital natives will start perceiving school as non-authentic.” In minutes, they can change a thought to a video, a live stream or a podcast that they can share globally.

Technology integration as a process

As mentioned earlier, technology integration is a process that is incorporated in lesson planning. It is not about picking up an app and forcing it into teaching to make it more attractive. With pedagogy steering the process, the first step is to identify the learning objectives. Typically, the teacher will then decide on the methods and assessment tools to achieve learning objectives in a student-centered learning environment.

educational-origami - 21st Century Pedagogy

educational-origami - 21st Century Pedagogy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

How we teach must reflect how our students learn. It must also reflect the world our students will move into. This is a world which is rapidly changing, connected, adapting and evolving. Our style and approach to teaching must emphasise the learning in the 21st century..

For those who are just getting to grips with the power of Twitter, e.g. me, the awareness of just how quickly the world around us is changing comes sharply in to focus.  pupils in schools today have grown up with this understanding, and we, as educators, have a huge responsibility to bring our practice up to date and in line with this rapidly changing world. Young people can in theory cut themselves off from the world and, through the power of technology keep themselves to themselves, entertain themselves 24/7.  They don't need us.  But they do, in order to help them grow and develop as human beings, to learn to control the media to which they have such ready access, not to be controlled by it.

This article outlines how pedagogy in this golden age of technology needs to change.  It provides a good platform for continuing professional development.

Who's in Control? Minimalism in the Modern Learning Classroom

Who's in Control? Minimalism in the Modern Learning Classroom | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

A couple of years ago my 10th Grade advisees asked my help in conveying to the rest of the faculty how overwhelming their technology demands were becoming.  Just in terms of note-taking, for me and my partner teacher they were required to use Evernote, for another teacher they were expected to use Google Drive, in another class they were asked to use Dropbox and in another—with a more traditional teacher—they were tasked with organizing a three-ring binder. (With real paper!)
