My boys love to play with their iPad. My oldest who is 4 ½ spends an average of about 45 minutes each day playing a variety of games. Some like Endless Alphabet are educational while others like Fruit Ninja, are not so much.

I suppose the answer is a fairly simple one. Like everything in life, access to technology is best done with a healthy serving of moderation.

The Baby College program at Geoffrey Canada's Harlem Children's Zone is trying to foster exactly this same kind of notion: enriched parenting, providing children with encouragement and creating early environments promoting cognitive skills and non-cognitive skills. Just something basic like reading to the child on a regular basis, a very simple human activity that many of these disadvantaged kids don't get, can have payoffs, in terms of IQ.

Planet Nutshell produces short animated videos to explain products, services, and concepts. One of their series of videos is all about the Internet and Internet safety for K-12 students. The series is called NetSafe and it has 17 episodes that were produced for the Utah Education Network. The videos are labeled with grade levels so that students in high school don't watch videos designed for K-3 students. Thefirst video in the series is an explanation of what the Internet is in terms that K-3 students can understand.

A very good way to educate kids below 13 years old to use Social Media Twitter with even NO account! Before the kids will even be old enough to use Twitter they will know how to use it in an responsible manner!

But laying the responsibility for teaching digital citizenship solely at families' feet would be a mistake, Warren said. "It also has to be a part of ongoing education," she added, noting that kids as young as 2 now commonly use smartphones and other technological devices.
