The Critical 21st Century Skills Every Learner Needs and Why | #ModernEDUcation #ModernLEARNing | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Preparing a child for the world that doesn’t yet exist is not an easy task for any teacher. Step back and look at that picture from a broad perspective. What are the critical 21st-century skills every learner needs to survive and succeed in our world? What abilities and traits will serve them in a time that’s changing and developing so rapidly?

They want to be challenged and inspired in their learning. They want to collaborate and work with their peers. They want to incorporate the technology they love into their classroom experiences as much as they can. In short, they have just as high a set of expectations of their educators as their educators have of them.

How Are Educators Responding?

The Australian Curriculum Assessment and Reporting Authority, (ACARA), have identified the following as the General Capabilities they see as essential for learners:

Critical and creative thinking

Personal and social capability

Ethical understanding

Intercultural understanding

Information and communication technology capability

Literacy

Numeracy

Great tool for teachers to use in the classroom.
Julian F Calvo's curator insight, February 19, 2020 9:59 AM
This is an excellent idea for us to check how we can implement our topics and also, how learners can be interested on due to the fact that we are taking into account all the benefits they can have (this as an example of  the WH questions) and also since they can discuss about what they like to learn and share in classes. In adition, thi is something I can implement in classes since learners will have the opportunity to improve this speaking skill trhough the discussion of this kind of topics and also, the ones their are interested on. Finally, students will be able to participate more ought to the increase of motivation they will have since our duty is to encourage them to use the second language they are learning.
Harold Quintero's curator insight, September 26, 2020 2:37 AM
This is a very complete guide related to critical thinking questions that can allow us to help our students reflecting on the content we present them. These questions are also very useful for teachers in development to keep in mind while planning classes and preparing the material they are presenting to their students as it leads them to better select and adapt the content to students' needs and interests and have them engaged.

This directive is similar to the data-savvy and expert points, but teacher leaders need to be able to explain their craft. Your administrator will be trotting all kinds of people through your classroom.  As a teacher leader, you might be a maverick, doing things a little differently than the rest of the herd. Be prepared to defend that road less traveled.  Know why you do the things you do.  Then, as a leader, share everything you know.

The numbers reported in the “School in 2030” survey appear to tell a dominant story, one that involves drastic change and a forward-looking perspective regarding the future form that the educational system will take. While innovation is a prevailing theme in the discussion about the future of school, it is important not to confuse the need for innovation with the need for change.

As Noam Chomsky posits, “what we’re in need of is reversing the process of undermining what is positive about the educational system. We want to resist that and at the same time develop approaches which will improve on it as a tool, a commitment”. While there are many merits to forward evolution in education, it is important to also consider the lessons that can also be learned from looking back.

The four traits of collaborative leadership - Virgin.com

The four traits of collaborative leadership - Virgin.com | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it

So what does tomorrow’s leader look like? Here are four traits on the rise:

  1. Part of the team. For a millennial workforce, working collaboratively is key – and that includes the chance to challenge and question the boss. Great leaders will spend time meeting their staff and really listening to what they have to say.
  2. Admitting mistakes. Authenticity rules, and that might mean having the courage and conviction to admit lack of knowledge or making the wrong call. Humility is critical, particularly in an age of transparency and public accountability.
  3. Multi-sector experience. Millennials are far more likely to move between jobs and sectors as they develop their career, and they’ll expect their leaders to have the same breadth of experience. The journey from shop floor to CEO isn’t as relevant for tomorrow’s workforce.
  4. Female characteristics. It’s still a shocking truth that 5% of Fortune 500 positions go to women, but the evidence shows that businesses benefit enormously from behavioural traits often considered to be female, such as emotional intelligence, diplomacy and complex social skills. Women make great leaders.

I strongly belief that this applies also to school principals

Good infographic. Collaborative leadership is a feature of the new world of work.

daniel truran's curator insight, July 7, 2015 4:55 AM

An additional trait I love to see in a collaborative leader is the belief in #HumanNobility : believing that each individual has unlimited potential and that I as a leader need to allow that potential to contribute to the team in a collaborative natural flowing way.

The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn and relearn.

A veces lo que creemos lejano no lo es tanto.  Con un poco de orden, estructura y algo de información podemos conformar un paisaje de cultura digital y ciudadana para ser usuarios del siglo XXI.

The Visual Article Infograph-

I like that it has different colors to separate the different sections/ideas and different pictures/stick figures doing differnet things. But I think some of the shorthand could be reworded and made more clear.

Here are some great tips for using social media for everyone.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 25, 2015 10:48 AM

I chose this resource because they way teachers use social media has been a sore spot for many in our building. I support the idea of using social media in a professional construct and I feel that it is a powerful tool. However, even in teacher circles I've witnessed far too much negativity and I'm not sure that those individuals understand that the toxic nature of some posts are doing much damage to our school culture (and the community perceptions). I'm shocked to find that some teachers continue to use some social media to converse with students in non-academic affairs. It is truly not a good idea. I think this resource would be great to distribute during PD that occurs at the beginning of a school year.
