Parents, if you want an index of the social network options kids could be using, this site is useful.

Thanks to @Gust MEES for sharing this resource.  I believe this is a great option that schools should be providing parents that have students actively using these or similar sites.  The more parents understand the better chances for collaboration among them and respect for educational use.

Here are some great tips for using social media for everyone.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 25, 2015 10:48 AM

I chose this resource because they way teachers use social media has been a sore spot for many in our building. I support the idea of using social media in a professional construct and I feel that it is a powerful tool. However, even in teacher circles I've witnessed far too much negativity and I'm not sure that those individuals understand that the toxic nature of some posts are doing much damage to our school culture (and the community perceptions). I'm shocked to find that some teachers continue to use some social media to converse with students in non-academic affairs. It is truly not a good idea. I think this resource would be great to distribute during PD that occurs at the beginning of a school year.

Envy - Wikipedia | #Character #Moral

Envy - Wikipedia

Aristotle (in Rhetoric) defined envy (φθόνος phthonos) "as the pain caused by the good fortune of others", while Kant defined it as "a reluctance to see our own well-being overshadowed by another's because the standard we use to see how well off we are is not the intrinsic worth of our own well-being but how it compares with that of others" (in Metaphysics of Morals).

However, psychologists have recently suggested that there may be two types of envy: malicious envy and benign envy—malicious envy being proposed as a sick force that ruins a person and his/her mind and causes the envious person to blindly want the "hero" to suffer; on the other hand, benign envy being proposed as a type of positive motivational force that causes the person to aspire to be as good as the "hero"-but only if benign envy is used in a right way.[4][5]

O conceito de cidadania digital explorado.

Tony Palmeri's curator insight, October 25, 2015 10:32 AM

I scooped this article because I just this week led students on a conversation about digital citizenship (in my 1st hour advisory period). Educating students on digital citizenship is important and must be intentionally addressed. I like the resources posted here that support and help to describe the pitfalls of social media. Also, technology has evolved and is so available that young children are seemingly able to use it effortlessly. However, their grasp of language and understanding how their words are interpreted is often more deficient than the ability to use and navigate the internet. So, monitoring and attending to these issues is a must for teachers and parents alike.

Some really interesting ideas, here.  I am now thinking about how to integrate some of the practices here into learning and teaching practices.  IF you have any ideas about how this can be done, please share.....
