The Top 20 countries for software piracy

The Top 20 countries for software piracy | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
The pervasiveness of online privacy is an acknowledged reality of today’s Internet.

Software licensing, security and usage tracking provider V.i. Labs has analyzed customer data to identify where in the world most software piracy and license misuse originates from. While illegally downloaded movies and music may be the focus of government and financial efforts against piracy, unlicensed software piracy and license misuse run rampant as well, and its prevalence shifts from country to country.

According to the V.i Labs report, which analyzed customer data from its CodeArmor Intelligence software usage-tracking platform, the countries with the highest number of machines running unlicensed software this year were China, Russia and the United States, respectively.
Davey B's curator insight, December 3, 2014 5:36 PM

this source seems credible. It is a big news company.

Justin Avant's curator insight, December 8, 2014 1:19 PM

We among china and Russia are the top places who pirate not only music but other software and movies. This is a world problem and it seems like everyone does it.

What is a supercookie and why is it more important than you think? | Privacy | eSkills | Digital CitizenShip

What is a supercookie and why is it more important than you think? | Privacy | eSkills | Digital CitizenShip | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Many techie terms in the headlines lately. Supercookies, supertrackers, HTTP headers and X-UIDH. If you just skim the news you will learn that this is some kind of new threat against our privacy. But what is it really? Let’s dig a bit deeper. We will discover that this is an issue of surprisingly big importance.

Cookies are already familiar to most of us. These are small pieces of information that a web server can ask our browser to store. They are very useful for identifying users and managing sessions. They are designed with security and privacy in mind, and users can control how these cookies are used. In short, they are essential, they can be a privacy problem but we have tools to manage that threat.

What’s said above is good for us ordinary folks, but not so good for advertisers. Users get more and more privacy-aware and execute their ability to opt out from too excessive tracking. The mobile device revolution has also changed the game. More and more of our Internet access is done through apps instead of the browser. This is like using a separate “browser” for all the services we use, and this makes it a lot harder to get an overall picture of our surfing habits.

===> And that’s exactly what advertisers want, advertising is like a lottery with bad odds unless they know who’s watching the ad. <===

Coding Education Programs Expand In U.S. As IT Jobs Market Flourishes

Coding Education Programs Expand In U.S. As IT Jobs Market Flourishes | 21st Century Learning and Teaching | Scoop.it
Across the country, programming training courses and education providers are looking to create closer ties to build better training modules for would-be coders and software developers. Earlier in November, Codecademy launched ReSkillUSA along with Thinkful, to reach out to the same community of under-employed workers. With the tagline “Make the skills gap end with you,” ReSkillUSA falls in line with the LaunchCode mission, if not its exact methods.

Still, both are no-cost or low-cost options for getting an education in programming, and taken together with a new credentialing program that General Assembly has launched in concert with a number of large technology and industrial companies, the new initiatives could be promising for future employment. Especially since the General Assembly credentialing tests are open to anyone.
