Trish Sadar's insight:
I didn't realize that 1 out of 5 people in the US have a disability. This article opened my eyes a bit. I am in complete agreement that all it takes is one person who believes in you. There are so many individuals who want to work and give their all.
After the hurricanes hit in Florida one year when I was a Human Resources Director -- not too many employees showed up the following day to clean up. I seem to recall that every single one of our employees with disabilities arrived for work. It hit me strong how lucky we were to have employees who had such pride for their company and job. They really valued their position and wanted to make a contribution.

Networking and finding a mentor is imperative when getting ready to make a change or further develop your career. It makes sense to network through out your discipline or industry.
Trish Sadar's insight:
I absolutely agree that finding the right mentoring and networking are both important not only at the beginning of your career; however, througout one's career.
Networking: Making time to establish relationships, join associations, and helping others should be something that every professional should prioritize. Networking does not mean reaching out to people and connecting only when you need something from them.
Mentoring: Regardless of the success one has had in their career, we all need to seek out mentors who can help us to get to where we want to be faster.

The most difficult thing to understand is to understand one's own self. Deciding where you want to be and why it is your career goal is paramount. You are the only person who can determine what success looks like.
None of us were given operator's manuals on what career will fulfill us. We have to invest the time to understand what we are passionate about, and understand what positions and industries are consistent with what we aspire to achieve. Then we should do our homework to determine if the chosen position and industry is growing.
Regardless of what career we choose....we can be certain of change; however, growth will always be optional.
