John Bunyan is better known for his Pilgrim's Progress, but his "Holy War..." is similar: A classic Christian allegorical novel. This 1857 decorative edition is bound in bright red cloth boards with a gilded spine. It belonged to a Susan Angelica Getty, whose name is inscribed in the front and who seems to have used the book as a keepsake album: It contains 8 different locks of hair. I also found a sentimental poem cut from a newspaper and a large, four leaf clover pressed between the book's many pages.

What makes each book unique is that two different people can see the same book differently and take very different meanings from it. But this book here, printed back in the late 16th century, lets people actually read six different books individually in one contraption. This treasure on display at the National Library of Sweden discovered by Erik Kwakkel, uses a sixfold dos-à-dos binding technique with the help of six cleverly places clasps.
