1857 keepsake book with locks of hair and other ephemera - John Bunyan's Holy War

1857 keepsake book with locks of hair and other ephemera - John Bunyan's Holy War | Antiques & Vintage Collectibles | Scoop.it

John Bunyan is better known for his Pilgrim's Progress, but his "Holy War..." is similar: A classic Christian allegorical novel. This 1857 decorative edition is bound in bright red cloth boards with a gilded spine. It belonged to a Susan Angelica Getty, whose name is inscribed in the front and who seems to have used the book as a keepsake album: It contains 8 different locks of hair. I also found a sentimental poem cut from a newspaper and a large, four leaf clover pressed between the book's many pages.

The ONLY hair museum in the world with hundreds of wreaths and thousands of jewelry pieces made from human hair.  The Hair jewelry was worn both by men and women of the Victorian period (1800 - 1900) and earlier.
