Succotz' new restaurant, The Xunantunich Restaurant and Cafe, had their grand opening on January 15th.  They've created a really nice dining experience.  Great location, diverse menus, tasty food, and delicious homemade ice cream and pastries. Highly recommend. Wonderful to see a nice option in Succotz.

Feelgood news of the day.  The Friends for Conservation and Development Environmental Youth Group organized another Mopan river clean-up yesterday, and they collected 87 bags of trash.  Thank you, FCD EYG! 

Edit: They've completed their Calla Creek Village Cleanup.

If only there was a way to prevent litter, they could focus on other projects, like scholarship fundraising and helping the aged.  Beta No Litta!

"FCD Environmental Youth Group conducted a River and Roadside Clean Up along with members of the Mormon Helping Hands Youth Group in Succotz. We want to thank FCD for providing us with the canoes and the Village Council for their Support in another successful clean up. We collected 87 bags of garbage in total, garbage that was collected from within the river and river banks as well as the roadside. Join the movement and helps us have a clean and health Mopan River. We will be conducting a river clean up tomorrow May 5, 2019 at Calla Creek Village."

Congratulations, Jeavon Sanker!  Jeavon created a video for the CWWA World Water Day competition, and he won the Best Video award.  It's 1 minute long, and focuses on Succotz.  Happy World Water Day!

Caribbean 1-Minute Video Challenge. The theme of World Water Day 2019 is “Leaving No One Behind.”

Entrants were therefore asked to creatively answer the following question in a 1-minute video: In your community, do you believe there are any persons/groups/sectors being left behind in terms of access to water and sanitation?"

Video of the day.  Belizing.com took a trip to Actun Chapat, stopping by Actun Halal on the way, and they made a cool video about the experience.

"Community of San Jose Succotz and the Succotz RC School PTA are actively involved in the development of their community, Education and Social needs of their students. They believe that Culture, education, sports and discipline are fundamental activities when it come to the development of our youths, in their daily, personal and educational behaviours. They held a one day Cultural and Information Day at the San Jose Succotz RC School grounds. Where different organizations and groups displayed their products, services and what they have to offer to the community. There were cultural presentation done by students from the school, cultural dishes and delicacies. All this in the effort to develop a positive moral and keep cultural alive in the village. Thank to the Succotz RC School PTA for organizing such a wonderful event."

Feelgood news of the day.  The Rotary Club of San Ignacio handed over the finished bathroom at Succotz RC Primary School this week.  Thanks, Rotary!

Feelgood news of the day.  The Rotaract Club of Benque distributed food to people in need over the weekend.  This was their 4th annual food drive, and they delivered care boxes to people in Arenal, Benque, Calla Creek, and Succotz.  Thanks, Rotaract!

The Rotaract Club of Benque Viejo is having a Motmot Heritage Education Camp from Friday, July 7th, through Sunday, July 9th.  It'll take place in Succotz, and you can get more information at the Succotz public library.

Decibls will be performing at the Restaurante Azteca in Succotz on Saturday, July 15th. They'll start at 8pm.

'Decibls is back again this summer to rock out for you all! Grab some friends, families or even sweet hearts and come on over to Restaurante Azteca Bar & Grill. You can enjoy some DELICIOUS tacos and tortas while relaxing with nature and watching us rock out to some amazing classic & alternative rock music for you all!'

The Independence bikers rally will be Saturday, September 17th, at the Chill Out Restaurant & Bar in Benque, and Sunday, September 18th, at the Mopan Gas Station in Succotz.  They'll have live music, food and drink specials, and eating contests.  

The Cayo Animal Welfare Society is having low cost clinics in Bullet Tree on the 15th and 16th, and in Succotz and Benque on the 22nd and 23rd.  More will be announced soo.  Please share the fliers, and they are asking for volunteers.  Thanks, CAWS, for helping keep the animal populations in check.

We are trying to organize a day in Unitedville but if that falls through we will do an additional day in San Ignacio. We will know tomorrow. We are waiting for one more detail and then will post the remaining flyers for San Ignacio and Cristo Rey.

We still need a few volunteers in each location.

The 5th annual Succotz Archaeology and Culture Fair will be this Sunday, July 7th.  The fun starts at 10:00am.  There will be fun for all ages. 

Feelgood news of the day.  The FCD Environmental Youth Group celebrated World Water Day with a river clean up, and they also installed garbage drums along the Mopan in Succotz.  Thanks, FCD EYG!  Hopefully the drums will be used, which will free them up to concentrate on other important community service projects.

"Today FCD Environmental Youth Group while conducting a river cleanup camping along the Mopan River in commemoration of world water day they installed garbage drums. This is part of an MOU signed with the Village Council where FCD Environmental Youth Group adopted one mile of the river bank. The much needed drums where installed in key areas to alleviate the problem of improper garbage disposal by people who visit the Mopan River.

FCD Environmental Youth Group continues committed to the protection of our beautiful Mopan River."

Feelgood news of the day.  The FCD Youth Group organized a river and road clean up this weekend.  They had a good turnout, and looks like they picked up a ton of trash. 

Beta No Litta!

"River and Street Side Clean-up Campaign Friends for Conservation and Development Environmental Youth Group along with the Benque Volunteers Youth Group conducted a river and street side clean up between the areas of Benque Entrance and Succotz Village."

Feelgood news of the day.  The Benque Rotaractors made and distributed Christmas care packages to the 20 elderly individuals.  Thanks, Rotaract!  

"Christmas represents the season of selfless giving; and to us at Rotaract Club of Benque Viejo it represented an opportunity to share with our community members! 

This year we focused on our elderly by delivering "Christmas care packages" to 20 elders between San Jose Succotz Village and Benque Viejo Del Carmen. Each basket contained hygeneic, personal and self care items along with a handmade and customized Christmas ornament. 

Tis' the season of love, joy and inspiration! "

The Rotaract Club of Benque is teaming up with Oceana to clean up the Mopan river from Benque to Succotz.

In related news, Oceana Belize is organizing river and coastal clean ups all over Belize on Saturday.  They have a few in Cayo.

"Join us for the river clean up campaign on September 30th 2017 at 6am at the Centennial Park. The route from Benque Viejo by "La Bomba" to San Jose Succotz by the ferry."

Today's a perfect day for a game of poktapok, and that'll be happening, along with many other fun cultural activities, at the 3rd Succotz Archaeology and Culture Fair, which is today.
