Belize really gets top billing in this article about 'apocalypse tourism.'

"Plus, for the first time, Belize’s National Institute of Culture & History (NICH) is allowing visitors to camp overnight at the majestic Maya site of Caracol to witness the rising sun over the revered site on the summer and winter solstices and spring and autumnal equinoxes. These Maya Equinox Celebrations are limited to 100 guests per event and allow travelers to camp at Caracol on the evening of the 20th of March, June, September, and December."

"Apocalypse Tourism" in the news again

"Apocalypse Tourism" in the news again | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

We've talked about "Apocalypse Tourism" before, and how Belize is capitalizing on it.  This week, a writer for Slate magazine ran an article about his free vacation to Belize, and while it was a decent article, belize.com disected it, and added so much more.  Here is the extrememely well written intro:

"The government of Belize has been offering all-expenses covered junkets to a bevy of writers in an effort to place stories promoting the country’s tourism attractions.  To date more than a dozen writers have taken the bait and written what some would describe as puff pieces in various print and online media and garnered dozens of links for SEO promotion of its website.  But not all writers have obliged with the hoped-for stories adorned with peacock words."
