Friday Night in Downtown Cayo

Friday Night in Downtown Cayo | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Cayo's downtown is jumping on weekends.  The Burns avenue pedestrian walkway has a little bit of everything.  Food, and arts galore, and even a massage chair set up.  Emmanuel Mangar tops the list at Mr. Greedy's Live Music Fridays.  The new Fuego Bar and Grill is regularly packed with people enjoying their great appetizers, strong drinks, and unique entrees.

"Who says it's slow season?  On the 12th of July, downtown Cayo was packed, and Burns avenue was happening.  Arts, crafts, massages, drumming, live music from Emmanuel Mangar.  Awesome!"

In related news, the San Pedro Scoop, no relation, did an article on Cayo this week, and got some decent pictures of downtown.

Should Vehicles Be Allowed on Burns Avenue?

Pandy does some interviewing downtown to see what people think about allowing vehicles on the newly refurbished Burns Avenue.  Many viewpoints are given, proving Pandy's skill at journalism.  "No" seems to be the more popular, and better, choice.  Those bricks were made for walking, not heavy loads.  Give the video a look, and leave your comment.

Cayo Welcome Center's Design Plans

Cayo Welcome Center's Design Plans | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Cayo Welcome Center's ultimate look is really majestic.  Downtown's facelift will be great for everyone, and it will be safer too.

"The project Site for the new Cayo Welcome Center was chosen as a core area within the community with good pedestrian and vehicular links to the surrounding town and beyond.  Already in use as a public park this prominent location is currently under utilized and has a lot of potential for future development.  Positioned between Burns Avenue and the New Market area, if dealt with properly the site is ideally situated to help ease congestion and restore vitality to the historic town center.  Parts of Burns Avenue will also be include within the scope of the project as the section from the junction with Savannah street down to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church will be renovated in conjunction with the work to Coronation Park."

Cayo Outdoor Theatre presents RASH tonight

Cayo Outdoor Theatre presents RASH tonight | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

"Scratch it and it spreads" is the tagline for the movie RASH, which the Cayo Outdoor Theatre will be showing tonight on the newly painted movie wall in downtown Cayo.  How perfect that it's all about art, and will be shown on the same wall as the latest mural from the Mural Project.

"RASH conveys the commitment, ideals and beliefs
demonstrated in a thriving alternative art practice.  These artists bang away at the community conscience by sticking this artwork right in the public eye.  The spirit of rebellion is being channelled into street art and these visual conversations are spreading across the walls of Melbourne.  RASH offers a rare insight into graffiti artists’ world view."

One Day on Earth Trailer

The SISE House of Culture is doing their movie night on Earth Day...Earth Night.  They will be showing One Day on Earth, which is the first film ever shot in every country in the world on the same day.  Sounds like quite a project, and it must be quite diverse.

"ONE DAY ON EARTH creates a picture of humanity by recording a 24-hour period throughout every country in the world. We explore a greater diversity of perspectives than ever seen before on screen. We follow characters and events that evolve throughout the day, interspersed with expansive global montages that explore the progression of life from birth, to death, to birth again. In the end, despite unprecedented challenges and tragedies throughout the world, we are reminded that every day we are alive there is hope and a choice to see a better future together."

"Our Sojourn in San Ignacio"

"Our Sojourn in San Ignacio" | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Cayo gets some more great press, and Casa Blanca gets a shout out.

"We had reservations for four nights at the Casa Blanca Guesthouse, right on the main street of San Ignacio, Burns Avenue.  (I liked this street before I even saw it because my maiden name is Burns!)  And it was a very convenient place to stay; we could walk to all the restaurants in town easily and down to the river nearby as well.  It was not a fancy place, but it was scrupulously clean, safe, air-conditioned (which kept the road noise down), and non-smoking; and had cable TV, daily maid service, and private baths.  And the price was right at $49 US per night.  From what we could see as we walked around, it was the nicest place to stay if you wished to be right in the heart of town, and we did, so we were pleased with our choice."
