Why I want to chip in and be an ECO-boy | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Juan Espat submitted an Eco Kid essay for Chaa Creek's Summer camp.

"From since I was a child my parents thought me about conserve water and energy.  I had never put importance then, but now I thank them for being an inspiration and have influence me to become and ECO-boy.  Nothing beats nature.  Ever since the birth of technology man with his intelligent has built great and powerful things.  Unfortunately nature has paid the price.  We have global warming which is a result of massive deforestation the burning of toxic fumes witch has now destroyed a big portion of the ozone layer."

Chaa Creek's Eco Kids Summer Camp

There's still time to submit essays for Chaa Creek's Children’s Summer Camp Scholarship Program.  They have a short video out about the program.

"Every year we team up with a number of private sector businesses to offer a weeklong summer camp scholarship program for Belize's resident school children between the ages of 8 to 13 years old in order to educate them about biodiversity, natural resource conservation, the ancient Maya, traditional healing, and the three "R's" Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.  The program aims to install memorable values that will have an impact on the way children conduct their lives, their relationship with our fragile Earth, and the sustainable development of our future."

In related news, they have another submission for the essay competition.

Aadil is Eco Friendly

Aadil is Eco Friendly | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Another great Eco Kid essay, this one from 8 year old Aadil Nu ‘Man.  There is still time to submit essays and get a scholarship to Chaa Creek's Eco Kids Summer Camp.

"Everyday I try to recycle, reuse, and reduce. Early in the morning I wake up, eat my breakfast.   Any left over food scraps like orange peels, vegetables, tea bags egg shells and rice I put it in a container. In the evening I take it out in the corner of my back yard and use it to fertilize my plants. When I get new clothes and toys I put one of my toys or clothes that I am not using in a bag. All our family members do this so when we have a lot we have a yard sale. If any is left then we give to the less fortunate neighbors and friends. When we come out of our rooms for a little while I turn of my lights instead of wasting electricity and letting the electricity bill come high."

Why I want to be an Eco Kid!

Why I want to be an Eco Kid! | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Eco Kid essay of the day.  Johnathan Ludwig sent in this essay where he explains his love of plants.  Chaa Creek is accepting 300 word essays from kids that would like to do their Eco Kids Summer Camp.

"I have almost always wanted to grow something.  It did not matter what when I was younger I would plant a lot of seeds that I found.  I also would like going around and asking my mom if she could spare a carrot top or a potato’s eye or a sweet peppers seed.  I would plant everything that I got and I would check them every morning,  I would water the small plants but most all of my attempts failed.  I still want to grow plants.  Another thing is trees I mean if you look at a tree closely there are so many different ants and bugs on it and almost every single one has a home in that same tree."

I am an ECO WARRIOR

I am an ECO WARRIOR | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Lucas Hunt has a good essay for this year’s Chaa Creek Eco Kids Summer Camp.

"I am an eco warrior.  I love animals especially sea animals.  I sometimes get to go diving with my dad.  I have my junior PADI and I got certified in Mexico.  I also have swum with wild manatees, bull sharks, sea turtles, and all those kind of things.  My house is located in the middle of the jungle.  In Belize they burn a lot of things, including the jungle, and I am against that because it is bad for the air and bad for nature."

I am a Nature Lover

I am a Nature Lover | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Maslin Hanson wrote a great Eco Kid essay for Chaa Creek's Eco Kid Summer Camp essay competition.  She starts it off strong.

"I believe that since I am a nature lover, I would make an excellent Eco Kid 2013.  As young citizens of this beautiful jewel we call home, there is a lot that it offers to us.  We have the prestigious barrier reef and atolls, the magnificent Maya mountain and rain forest and numerous ancient monuments, too many to mention.  As compared to other Central American countries we are blessed with a lot of wondrous beauty. Now, as very proud citizens of this jewel we need to encourage everyone to protect and take care of our natural heritage.  There is no need for us to waste and destroy what we have.  Instead we should be focus in building and preserving what we are blessed with.  We have the rich tropical rain forest filled with unique flora and fauna.  We should not allow anyone to cut our trees but encourage them to cut and plant trees back trees which would replace the ones they cut."

Why I Love Nature

Why I Love Nature | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Here's another great Eco Kid essay for Chaa Creek's Eco Kid Summer camp.  Nice essay, Rodeli Mendez.

"I want to start by saying that there are many ways to be an eco-kid, but one main reason why I want to be one.  I want to be an eco-kid, well, because I just love nature.  I always dreamed of being taught about my environment and how to protect it.  I ask myself questions about the environment and do observations and research on it.  I want to find out if roaches bite, what types of bugs live on plants, how many types of medicinal plants we have in Belize, and many more things about science and my environment.  When I am not reading fairy-tales, I am busy reading my father’s science books that he uses to teach with."
