MMAC Awards Video

MMAC Awards Video | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Video of the day.  The Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge has finished.  They have a spectacular video chronicling the race, through caves, up dams, rappelling into sinkholes, and many other wild and exhausting hurdles, all culminating in a canoe trek back to Cayo.  There's some amazing drone footage in this video.  Congratulations, Team Bones, for winning the MMAC!

Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge 2016

Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge 2016 | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The 2016 Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge is only 80 days away.  The MMAC is not only a fun adventure.  One of the goals is to raise over $500,000 for the Friends for Conservation and Development so they can better protect the Chiquibul.  Cahal Pech Village Resort is one of the hosts, and many of the teams will be staying there.

"Your donation will help to put more park rangers on the ground for FCD.  Currently there are 7 park rangers.  The telethon’s target was to raise BZ$500,000 to provide 24 park rangers in the area and kick-start the Adopt A Ranger Program for Chiquibul National Park.  By the end of the telethon, we met 65% of our target, and we continue to accept contributions toward this effort."

The Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge is over, and the YogaSlackers won the race.  Here's the 3rd of 4 videos they made about preparing for the jungles and mountains of Belize.  They had some serious gear they had to take with them.

"Welcome to the third video in the the Maya Adventure Challenge series. Follow the YogaSlackers as they prowl through untamed jungles for three days and three nights non-stop in the Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge.  We’ll be there every step of the way to bring you the planning, the execution, the failures, and the triumphs in a four-part video series."

MMAC Finale 2016 | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge, the longest race in Belize, spanning over 300 miles in 4 days, was last week.  The SIRH has a nice article with all the winners of the race.  The next one is scheduled for 2018.

The Cayo Tour Guide Association also has a good article on the MMAC.  There are 1000's of pictures on the MMAC page.

"Congratulations to the winners of The Maya Mountain Challenge 2016.  Thank you to all of the racers, donors, volunteers, sponsors and spectators that made the 2016 Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge was an incredible success!"

MMAC: Race to Live

The YogaSlackers have released the 4th and final video from their win of the Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge.  It chronicals the 3 days and nights of their journey through the Chiquibul and MPR.  Lots of great scenery and adventure, and stories, like having to carry their bikes due to there being too much mud.  Wonder if they'll be back for the next one.

"Welcome to the final video in the Maya Adventure Challenge series.  Follow the YogaSlackers as they prowl through untamed jungles for three days and three nights non-stop in the Maya Mountain Adventure Challenge.  We'll be there every step of the way to bring you the planning, the execution, the failures, and the triumphs in a four-part video series."
