Video of the day.  Paul Powton Photography created a couple of videos for the Ministry of Works highlighting the construction and completion of the new Macal River Bridge.  At around 2:30, the drone captures Santa Elena and San Ignacio, along with both of the other bridges, from a few 100 meters above the bridge, and it really puts things in perspective.  The second video is after completion.

"Belize's largest & most impressive bridge under construction"

The University of Belize's solar power project is completed, and is ready to start generating power.  Plus TV has a good article about the project, and interviewed one of the people that works with the project.  Solar power, what a great idea.  

"The project was funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency.  The power generated by the PV system will be sold to Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) and the gross proceeds from such sales will be transferred by way of a grant to UB.  Also, GOB will transfer the ownership and management of the PV system after a period of ten years to UB free of cost.  The equipment procured under the project will be maintained by the Ministry of Works and UB with necessary assistance from BEL and other related organizations.  The cost of the project is BZ$10 million.  Official handing over ceremony will be held next week Friday August the 24th at 10am."
