The SISE House of Culture is unveiling their Battle of St. George's Caye Exhibit this Friday.

The Secret Passages art exhibit at the Soul Project is a living exhibit.  If you want to add to it, just stop by, and have some fun making art.

"This art show, is still in progress people from all over the world are now dropping in to ad there creativity to the installation."

A frieze from El Castillo at Xunantunich was the featured picture in Museum magazine, for their article covering the 'Maya: Hidden Worlds Revealed' exhibit at the Science Museum of Minnesota.  Many other Maya artifacts from Belize are also in the exhibit.

"Check it out!  We are featured inside the Nov/Dec issue of the American Alliance of Museum's magazine 'Museum'."

The Belize Coalition to Save Our National Heritage had a booth at Agric, and they got a lot of pictures of people enjoying their exhibit.  They had games, prizes, and educational activities for their guests.

In related news, they are having a competition to see who can come up with their new logo.

'Old Benque,' the exhibit at the Benque House of Culture, is officially open to the public.  The CTGA published a great article about it, and there are some great pictures there too.

"Twenty five years of creeping us out with its dark stories and Belizean folklore, I will never forget the part of that book when the spirit gave the woman the candle that later tuned into a femur.  The first time I read the story was in high school for my Spanish class but I think I did not appreciate the book until much later when I reread it and understood it better.  The book was first published in 1990 and is written in Spanish, a true work of art by David Nicolas Ruiz Puga, an educator and cultural promoter from Benque Viejo del Carmen, Cayo, Belize.  It features a blend of historical events, Belizean culture and folklore and is now an iconic book in Western Belize. One of the memorable things about the book is the compilation of images sketched within its pages.  I was always thrilled about them.  The drawing of the skeletal spirit handing over the white candle has certainly haunted me all these years, and the rest of the drawings are equally as memorable."

The SISE House of Culture is calling for artists to submit art for the El Cayo Arts Collection exhibition.  The deadline for submissions is July 31st, and the exhibit will start on August 15th.

The SISE House of Culture has an exciting new exhibit which will feature art from Sacred Heart College students.  It will open tomorrow, at 2:00pm.  

Cayo Event Calendar

The Benque House of Culture had their new exhibit launch last night, and they got some great pictures from the event.  The launch kicked off the Benque Festival of Culture, which is happening now, and continues through Monday.  This weekend, there will be performances from the Benque Marimba Academy, Pablo Collado, and Panerrifix, just to name a few.

"Belize: through my eyes a juried photographic exhibition was launched today for the 5th International Cultural Festival.  It was unveiled by the NICH President Ms.Diane Haylock.  We all thank the 16 Artist from all over Belize for sharing their personal images.  We will share their names soon..  Some of this images will be showcased in Argentina at the Belize Consul...in 2014"

The Benque House of Culture is getting ready for their next exhibition, which will be photographs from around Belize that follow the theme 'Belize: Through My Eyes.'  The juried photographic exhibit is open to all amateur photographers.  They are accepting submissions through the 25th of October.  Call Subrata Basu at 633-8000 for more information.
