Our research into the history of brainwashing and mind control follows five interconnected strands: the original psychological research on brainwashed prisoners of war; psychological warfare used to support colonialism and counter-insurgency; theories and depictions of mind control in popular media and advertising; criticism of psychotherapy as a form of brainwashing; and the continuing use of brainwashing concepts in present-day policy debates.
