GStreamer Element in RDK Stack Opens New Possibilities for OEMs

GStreamer Element in RDK Stack Opens New Possibilities for OEMs | business analyst | Scoop.it

An intriguing set of new capabilities for bringing IP content to set-top boxes is coming into focus as a result of the inclusion of the GStreamer multimedia framework in the protocol stack endorsed by developers of the Reference Design Kit platform for next-gen devices.

Fluendo’s GStreamer-based Oneplay platform opens the door to building rich applications on a framework that supports playback in Linux, Windows, MAC OS X, Android and iOS environments from video streamed over any of three leading adaptive bitrate (ABR) formats, including HLS (HTTP Live Streaming), Microsoft Smooth and MPEG DASH adaptive bitrate formats.

Streaming Content to Google Chromecast with MPEG-DASH

Streaming Content to Google Chromecast with MPEG-DASH | business analyst | Scoop.it

A few weeks ago Google released Chromecast, a device which plugs into the HDMI port of a TV, and can stream content directly to the TV, with controls from either a mobile device or a computer.

The Chromecast device is a powerful tool that utilizes the latest features HTML5 to provide an environment capable of rich media playback. The Chromecast is specifically designed for this task, as evidenced by the great YouTube and Netflix applications that are already available.

The idea is that the Chromecast is a small dedicated computer that is capable of playing media all by itself; it simply needs somebody else to tell it what to play.

libdash – Simplifies the usage of DASH

libdash – Simplifies the usage of DASH | business analyst | Scoop.it

libdash is a library that simplifies DASH with the intention to make the usage of DASH streams as simple as the usage of a file. The library handles the whole HTTP connection setup, the xml parsing and the bandwidth adaptation process and with its internal buffer it tries to enable a stable stream for the user of the library. Furthermore the library supports a part of the isoffmain profile, the full basic-cm profile and HTTP byte range requests.
