This how to guide by Sylvia Jensen, highlights nine tips to ensure a great content strategy: Start with the objective All too often objectives are far-reaching and/or fuzzy Understand your audience Don’t lose focus on who will be reading your content and where possible identify personas Avoid product- and sales-driven content Create content about what you know, not what you sell Invest and market your content Create a unique point-of-view because you are competing with every publisher, bloggers, trade journals, Twitter influencers, and even daily newspapers Create a content calendar The content you create should be planned, yet flexible enough to adapt to inspiration Build a content team Your colleagues are vital to the creation, distribution and socializing of your content, inspire them to contribute Recycle your content Wherever possible repurpose and recycle your content and share across all platforms. Check this great presentation by Scot McKee on content recycling.[PDF] http://bit.ly/SabzgX Find a chief content officer While everyone in a company may be responsible for content, one person needs to be accountable for it Be interesting Content marketing is a new strand of marketing DNA. If you lack the skills internally then hire a journalist or a specialty agency to work with you.

Excerpted from article: "If you're challenged with targeting an audience across multiple countries or languages, you probably have a lot of questions about how to create a successful global social media content strategy.
Here are 7 important tips to keep in mind as you're building your global social media content strategy.
1) Segment Your Audience Smartly First, determine how you want to segment your social media audience by deciding which countries and languages you want to target, and set some social media goals for each of these audiences. Next, decide if you can use the localization features of the most popular social networks to segment your audience rather than creating a brand new page or profile for each one.
2) Provide Native Translations Don’t simply take a blog post from your English blog and copy/paste it into Google Translate for your Spanish blog, or vice-versa. Same goes for tweets and Facebook status updates. Here are just some of the translation service providers you can choose from: - Milengo
3) Solicit Content From Local Contributors From each region you're targeting, recruit guest bloggers who can provide local insights you can’t provide yourself. This is especially important if you decide to set up a separate blog for each language or region that you're targeting. This will keep the content on your blog fresh and varied, as well as relevant to your local audience. In addition, along with guest bloggers comes inbound links from global domain extensions, giving your global blogs an SEO boost.
4) Post Relevant Content Make sure you're either on top of the hot topics and sensitive issues in each of your target markets, or you hire someone to specialize in each market. In addition, make sure you’re only posting content that's relevant for each specific audience.
5) Use High-Quality Images Wherever Possible Remember: An image doesn’t need a translation. Visuals are much easier for international audiences to understand, especially if you’re not creating separate profiles for each region or language. They also happen to drive engagement.
6) Understand Color Connotations Figure out what certain colors mean in different countries before designing your blog and social media profiles.
7) Link All Your Social Channels Together Your ultimate goal of participating in social media is likely to drive traffic back to your website so you can convert those visitors into leads. If that's the case, you'll want to make it as easy as possible to direct your social media fans and followers back to your website where those conversions can take place. Therefore, make sure you link to the appropriate blog/website within each social media account's About Us or URL sections..."

Devotion to self-tracking has a name -- "Quantified Self" -- which is a website established by Wired co-founder Kevin Kelly and Gary Wolf, Wired contributing editor. Wolf's own website, Aether, says more than 12,000 people worldwide are members of Quantified Self Meetups.
Inside Larry Smarr's refrigerator this week was a stool sample that he planned to ship to a laboratory, which will send back a report of information about what's going on inside Smarr.
As of Thursday, there were 873 people registered for the Quantified Self message boards, where people discuss the latest apps and research. The website has a list of hundreds of apps and tools available for tracking different aspects of your life, from mood to diet to sleep. The movement hosted the conference Quantified Self 2012 last weekend, with Smarr as a guest speaker. Via nrip

Robin Good: Everytime I see a new post or article claiming to list the best content curation tools I know I am in for some disappointment.
Most of these lists just pick up names from other lists without even bothering to check, test or verify what these tools actually do, whether they are still available. Unfortunately the rush to put out "curated" list of tools and services has created more misinformation than useful lists.
But if you, like me, are on the lookout for new and effective tools to curate your own content or the one of your customers, I have created a comprehensive map of all the curation tools available online and I keep it fresh and updated almost on a daily basis.
The map presently lists over 250 content curation tools which you can navigate much more easily than it was possible on my earlier versions of this map.
On the right side of the map you will find all of the news and content curation tools available online today. On the left side, you can find bookmarking, link lists builders, clippers and lots of tools to operate with RSS feeds (which are still at the heart of a curator's job). With the Technological Mandala series I combined the suggestive and spiritual meaning of the Indian Mandalas with something that has been perceived as far from that sphere of influence, technology. The search of perfection as necessity within the electronics industry has stimulated my curiosity to produce this series of pieces in order to evocate that specific need. I wanted to show what has been hidden from the eyes of the consumer, representing electronic circuits as extraordinary objects where the perfection of the design can becomes almost something ethereal. The shapes and colors of the single components intrigued me for pure aesthetic reasons with the consequent loss of the actual functionality of the component itself. My circuits/ Mandalas do not activate lights or do other complicated function, but they simply function as stimulus to produce simple questions like: what will happen if a real electric current flows through the Circuit/Mandala?
