Apple's iOS 12 is here, and it might actually make your iPhone faster

Apple's iOS 12 is here, and it might actually make your iPhone faster | Educational iPad User Group | Scoop.it
The simple interface of Screen Time extends to parental controls, allowing parents just as much power in limiting Minecraft or Instagram on a child’s device. Google offers something similar in Android, but Google’s parental controls seem to be built on top of their enterprise tools; you’re effectively setting up an Android device as you would lock one down for a business. This makes their tools far harder to configure, and even as a systems admin by trade I struggled with Google’s tools. Apple’s tools, built upon the simple Screen Time interface, is instantly intuitive.

Obviously these tools do not do the parenting for you, you’ll still need to think of your own limits, and negotiate them with your children, but having the controls on your own device is fantastic. Of course, many children may not be as impressed. This message was sent to a friend of mine, once his seven year old’s Minecraft limits were reached:

Google puts pressure on Microsoft, launches Quickoffice for iPhone and Android

Google puts pressure on Microsoft, launches Quickoffice for iPhone and Android | Educational iPad User Group | Scoop.it

Google launched its Microsoft Office substitute, Quickoffice, for Apple’s iPhone, Android smartphones and Android tablets, fulfilling a promise made in December.

The release on Tuesday follows the launch of Quickoffice for Apple’s iPad late last year, when a Google executive said that iPhone and Android versions “are on the way.” The move was also preceded by a February announcement that Google was baking the Quickoffice technology into both its Chrome browser and Chrome OS.

How to Remote Wipe an iPhone or iPad

How to Remote Wipe an iPhone or iPad | Educational iPad User Group | Scoop.it
How to Remote Wipe an iPhone or iPad...

If you have an iPhone, iPad, or iPod, you can remotely wipe the device with the help of an excellent free service offered through iCloud called “Find My iPhone” (or Find My iPad, etc). This is perfect for situations where a lost device is long gone with no chance of recovery, because it erases anything that is personally identifying, be it emails, texts, contacts, apps, quite literally everything. If you don’t have this configured yet and you don’t know how to use it, set aside some time to learn, it only takes a few minutes.
