The 7 Major Graphic Design Trends of 2019

The 7 Major Graphic Design Trends of 2019 | Must Design | Scoop.it
Prepare yourself for 2019, with this look into the biggest design trends of the year. We’ve covered it all, from typography to illustration and more.
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Look Closely At Trends #2 and #3
Immersive Design (#2) and Exposed Mechanics (#3) are related. Immersive Design looks toward virtual reality. VR is a subset of a more significant trend - experiences are the new branding.

Why would people pay to run through cold, mud, and over rocks and steel? Tough Mudder knows experience is the new branding. And I agree with the founder. Will Dean when he insists no social media means no Tough Mudder. Tough Mudder is immersive and built for sharing.

Exposed Mechanics elevates process. Process becomes a shareable product. Exposing mechanics creates and shares vulnerabilities. Sharing process in real time or near real time removes a barrier, encourages engagement, and creates conversations. Perfect is left in favor of content capable of producing, rewarding, and inspiring a tribe.

Sharing process, warts and all, break the third wall - the wall between visitors, viewers, and creators. We develop enough of a framework to receive feedback and then cooperate with those special customers to shape a two-sided dynamic conversation. Happening NOW.

Experience always happens NOW — these two trends, immersive and exposed, wreck marketing as practiced in favor of community, conversations, and customers. Control, still a figment of a marketer's imagination, moves from marketers to curators and analysts.

After such a shift any message meant to brainwash a passive audience sound false, thin, and discouraging. Experience moves passive consumption out in favor of active collaboration. Once the DVR, streaming and a ubiquitous Internet change consumer expectations in favor of exposed mechanics and immersive collaborative tribal experiences going back to passive consumption is impossible and annoying.

Maddening means now there's a penalty for being only slightly out of touch. Create a passive one-sided campaign, and you'll do more than spend money carelessly. Preach without conversation, and you'll pay with cash and brand equity. And the later is the vastly more valuable and hard-earned currency.

Do Graphic Designers Need Code School?

Web design is, like most things, in the middle of an intense revolution. As the backend or reading and writing content to databases continue to move toward the front end of pretty pictures customers see and interact with designers will be tempted to attend a "code school".

Before you pay thousands in tuition to upgrade skills you may need to upgrade read this Curagami post first: http://www.curagami.com/code-schools-will-they-change-your-life/

Colors, Shapes, Minimalism - 9 Graphic Design Trends You Need To Know   | Must Design | Scoop.it

Nine Graphic Design Trends
This post shares nine graphic design trends including:

* Move to Bright Colors

* Color Transitions

* Patterns and Geometry

Read about the other trends on this Web Design Ledger post: https://webdesignledger.com/9-graphic-design-trends-need-aware-2017/?_tmc=Ef7mhzj4NfxCTVDKZ0E0ah3VKpYeh2R183X9wdgYBbk

Via Ana Cristina Pratas
Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Agree and disagree with some of these trends. The bright colors trend seems obvious, but not when you factor in mobile first. Mobile doesn't handle gradients well thus the great flattening of images into more traditional "web safe" colors. Mobile requires simplification across the board images included.

That is NOT to say arresting images don't matter. Arresting images matter more than every since your content must cut through a mountain of clutter. If you're using standard stock cut luck with that "cutting through the clutter" thing.

Better to find arresting images like the one that got my attention long enough to read and scoop this post :). Marty

Marking basically, implies the way the organization logo and hues have been utilized to depict its picture to the outside world. It engraves the item you offer in the psyches of would be clients. It really implies that when one sees these specific hues and outline logo, the principal thing is to recall your image administrations and items. Letterhead Design Services

MoMA Web & Graphic Design = Great Teachers

MoMA Web & Graphic Design = Great Teachers | Must Design | Scoop.it

Want To Learn Graphic Design?
Don't know about you but I learn best now by doing. I'm too old to sit in a classroom and listen. If I can't Tweet, G+ and Scoop I don't learn. I love the approach for how we train doctors for learning Internet marketing:

* Watch One.
* Do One.
* Teach One.

That last phase, teaching, is where whatever you are trying to do becomes solid and real. This is why social media, blogging and great tools like G+ are so valuable. We can share, teach, learn simultaneously.

When I created my first website in 1999 we couldn't afford to hire anyone. I learned photoshop and enough HTML to be dangerous and we set off on a journey.

Marshal McLuuhan was right. Today the medium is the message, so marketers need to speak graphics too or be too far behind (waiting on someone to create something). If you want to learn great graphic and web design FOLLOW, READ and LEARN FROM the Museum of Modern Art's design team.

Not a huge surprise MoMA would have a rockin design team, but more than brilliant designers these guys share and play well with others too and that was a tad unexpected. I would become a snotty jerk if my designers were good enough to work for MoMA.

Friends are laughing now. I know I will NEVER reach such graphic design heights, but that's okay because I know and can learn from great design when I see it (as can you). MoMA design rocks and they share so learn from these gifted artists / designers.

Graphic Design – Does it Matter? | Abstrakt Marketing Group | Must Design | Scoop.it

Art as a form of creative expression has been around centuries. While the mediums artists use to create have changed, their work has remained important. Through advertisement, graphic design has been making its way into our lives since we were born.

Marty Note
As marketing becomes more visual with pressure to explain more detail in less time and space (can you say mobile) graphic design becomes of critical importance.

Adobe Just Built The Prettiest UI Ever

Adobe Just Built The Prettiest UI Ever | Must Design | Scoop.it

Squishy Bendy Color
A new project from Adobe Research and the University of Toronto may take things a step further. Their Playful Palette lets you mix colors in a stretchy, blended puddle. The effect is downright beautiful. Each color mix is like its own little snapshot of wall-ready abstract art. But crucially, as you work putting colors to the virtual canvas, you automatically save the colors that you’ve already used around the wheel.

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

Sounds very cool great tool matched with a better UI from Adobe seems incongruous but we can't wait to try bendy squishy colors.

Unique & Creative Text-Focused Websites Inspire

Unique & Creative Text-Focused Websites Inspire | Must Design | Scoop.it

Typography is an important but often under-represented part of a website's layout. With so much focus being placed on the presentational aspects of CSS and the use of large images and media that choke bandwidth restraints; it’s nice to occasionally remember that textual content can also make an impact on users and their experience. Content remains king, and a few good fonts can make even the simplest of sites look smart - though not so many that you have to wait for ages for the text to be visible.

Because of this, I’m going to show you a few handpicked examples of sites that make their content look terrific, and why you should consider following their example in your own work. We’re going to take a journey of how elegant typography can make a site shine; looking at the bold, creative, navigational, simplistic and interactive content that makes the designer's voice speak volumes - so let’s get started!...

5 Web Design Ideas From A Non-Designer

5 Web Design Ideas From A Non-Designer | Must Design | Scoop.it

Graphic Designers ROCK
I have more than tremendous respect and admiration for graphic designers. The ability to use tools like Photoshop and Illustrator to create MAGIC is something I will always envy. I know enough to know just how magical those skills truly are, so thank you.

I would LOVE to convince gifted visual marketers of the need to fix five mistakes I see over and over, mistakes that can HARM a websites bottom line and ability to scale.

I confess to making some of these mistakes myself. Easy to do when caught up in the NEW chase. I got so I printed out this list and keep it in view so it smacks me as a reminder while creating ideas for a new design.

Despite the list being omnipresent I forgot a subscription option on CrowdFunde.com two months ago, so EASY to forget these ideas:

** Email Subscription
Any websites lifeline is the LIST of supporters and subscribers they OWN. If Google changes their algorithm and PPC goes bankrupt you can always may your own list, so making sure the ability to opt in to that list is omnipresent is a CSF (Critical Success Factor).

** Keywords In Category Names
Think, "Do we want to win that keyword," when reviewing your navigation. You may select to have your URLs rewritten to be more keyword specific, but those internal links play an important role with Google's spider and SEO so KEYWORDS are a must.

** Research Keywords
My CrowdFunde co-founder Phil Buckley asked me if I thought attorneys or lawyers would be the most searched term. "Lawyers," I answered confidently knowing I was wrong (you never win these who will win questions lol). Attorneys is the winner and by a large margin. Don't write copy to what you THINK when it is so easy to do a little research and KNOW.

** The Tricky Part To Web Analytics
Here's the rub to web metrics. They operate in a constant seesaw dance with one another. Attorneys may be the most searched, but maybe that is because the Mass Tort guys have crushed the deck in some way (have no knowledge of that only using it as an example so please don't sue me lol). When you DESIGN with numbers you design better, but be sure to ask your SEO contact where the rubs are in the numbers. Rubs are numbers that LOOK one way but actually ARE another. Trust me you NEVER want to spend the kind of time in Google Analytics knowing where the rubs are requires, so ask.

** 80/20 Rule
One Internet marketing FRACTAL we discovered is 20% of the links, traffic, pages always get 80% or more of the value. Your job is to build a flexible framework so when your managing team SEES the emerging 80/20 rule you can easily shift the presentation to favor the 20 over the 80.

Now please take these practical, money making ideas and make them beautiful and THANK YOU for your dedication to BEAUTY in design and life :). Marty

Martin (Marty) Smith's insight:

I've always used magazines for quick hits, for ways to shake up my visual thinking. How, Print and Communication Arts are design magazines I've used. Some of the magazines (now websites) on this list are new to me.

Good rule of thumb is consistently look at OPD (Other People's Designs) because yours get better and you find ideas you couldn’t have thought of any other way.
