Humor in the Classroom: 40 Years of Research

Humor in the Classroom: 40 Years of Research | Didactics and Technology in Education | Scoop.it
You have to admire scholars willing to look at 40 years of research on any topic, and this particular review is useful to faculty interested in understanding the role of humor in education. It starts with definitions, functions, and theories of humor. It identifies a wide range of different types of humor. It reviews empirical findings, including the all-important question of whether using humor helps students learn. And finally, this 30-page review concludes with concrete advice and suggestions for future research. It’s one of those articles that belong in even modest instructional libraries—imagine having to track down the better-than-100 references in the bibliography.

How to Turn Infographics Into Effective Teaching Tools

How to Turn Infographics Into Effective Teaching Tools | Didactics and Technology in Education | Scoop.it

Infographics have already established themselves as engaging news and marketing tools, but they are also entering the education space in new and exciting ways.

A good graphic can fit these standards by reinforcing to students that their conclusions should be grounded in evidence and by challenging their ability to organize a hierarchy of systems, a.k.a. the ability to tell what pieces of information are the most important.

Infographics is a very interesting way of presenting information. Students can really learn to dig deep into specific information and facts and create infographics to show what they have learned. GREAT!!!!!

Fàtima Galan's curator insight, October 2, 2013 9:21 AM

"The goal of the system is to help students distill the most important pieces of information from any given text and form a conclusion."
