When I visited the US, I chose to visit one of the top public schools in the midwest. I chose a bad day to visit. It was the day after a school board meeting where students were denied their request for proper pay. One of the leaders of that school district actually said something similar to "If you can't support yourself off of your salary get married. You are in a wealthy district." It was so wrong on so many levels. Even on a deflated day, I saw how devoted the teachers were. My parents were teachers. They were frugal their entire lives. Looking back at the hours they put in year round, it is eye-opening. At the time, it was just 'normal'.
