I’m not the most dedicated Instagrammer (need to get out more) or the best photographer (wish I was) but like many other educators, I enjoy sharing my photos on Instagram.

Why?  It’s fun! Easy! I can quickly share photos taken on my iPhone when I’m out and about!  Or have fun editing photos and sharing from my camera on my iPad!  And in the process I’m learning more about photography, photo editing and other Instagram users.

Here’s my advice to help you get started or get more out of using Instagram.

Intro to Hashtag Etiquette

Intro to Hashtag Etiquette | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

I like this article. The advice is very basic, but that's all you need to get started in the right way.

What I would add is this: Make sure you understand how each of the social media platforms you use work. On Twitter, for example, you shouldn't add more than two hashtags to your Tweets, while on Instagram, you can go up to 7. Just make sure that they are relevant.

You don't want to draw attention to your brand or name for the wrong reasons.

How to Use Instagram in the Classroom - The Tech Edvocate

How to Use Instagram in the Classroom - The Tech Edvocate | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
Instagram is a social media platform that is continuing to gain momentum. According to Wordstream, there are 800 million people on Instagram, and a third of the users are teenagers. If you have not begun harnessing the power of Instagram for your classroom, you need to consider it. Teachers across the world are finding ways to use Instagram to engage with their students and their parents.

If you follow your school’s internet and social media policies, Instagram can be a fun and safe social media tool for you and your students. The first thing you want to do, as a teacher, is to create a separate, private classroom account. This account should only be used for class-related things and only followed by students and their parents. Once you get your Instagram classroom account, you can get busy searching related #hashtags and posting images right away.

All the Changes Coming to Your Instagram | #SocialMedia | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

At Facebook’s F8 conference on Tuesday, Mark Zuckerberg discussed how Instagram will be changing in the coming weeks. The upgrades include video chat, an Explore redesign, AR camera effects, and a bullying filter.

The new video chat feature will allow users to talk with one or more people. “You’re going to be able to just tap on a new camera icon in the top of any direct thread that you have and you’re going to be able to video chat one-on-one or with groups,” Zuckerberg explained. The chat screen can be minimized so users can use the feature while also scrolling through Instagram.

Instagram is also rolling out a new Explore design that features categories so users can choose different topic channels—like “animals,” “nail art,” and “slime”—rather than just seeing content that Instagram thinks you’ll like.

Study: Snapchat and Instagram are the worst for young people

Study: Snapchat and Instagram are the worst for young people | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

A new study lends credence to what you’ve probably always suspected: social media is having a pretty negative effect on teenagers — Instagram and Snapchat being the worst culprits. The study, published today and called “Status of Mind,” was conducted by researchers for the Royal Society for Public Health in the UK. The researchers surveyed 1,479 British youths ages 14-24, asking them how they felt the different social media networks effected their mental health. They took in several factors such as body image, sleep deprivation, bullying, and self-identity.

The results suggest the two worst social media networks for kids are Instagram and Snapchat, as they had terrible scores for body image, bullying, and anxiety. Twitter and Facebook weren’t much better, though. YouTube was the only one that apparently inspired more positive feelings than negative ones.

How to Make Quotes for Instagram: 7 Apps to Try

How to Make Quotes for Instagram: 7 Apps to Try | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

When you come across a beautiful sight -- be it a beach, a mountain, or your pet's face -- sometimes, it inspires you to think bigger about what certain sights and experiences mean.

For those moments, you might consider posting a photo on Instagram with an equally inspiring quote as the caption. But you could take it even further -- and save characters -- by posting the photo with the quote.

You've likely seen quotes on Instagram posts before, but you may never have created one for your brand's account. Here's a recent Instagram quote we shared here at HubSpot:See what we mean?

Posting quote images on Instagram can diversify your content on the platform and humanize your brand a little, too. Everyone could use a motivational quote during a busy Monday morning or a slow Tuesday afternoon, so try out an Instagram quote for your next post with the help of these free apps....
