New Technology Trends in Online Education

New Technology Trends in Online Education | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
As a consequence of the previous trend, online education addresses the functions of standard educational institutions, and therefore, will adopt the relevant standards: the classification and ranking of educational centers. The quality of teaching and the work of lecturers will be assessed by experts by a number of indicators, forming objective ratings.

"According to a survey conducted in the summer of 2017 by InformationWeek and Interop ITX, 64 percent of IT organizations say that facing a lack of the right IT skills is a moderate-to-major concern. In fact, 83 percent said that an IT skills gap delayed IT projects, and nearly a third said it resulted in poor quality projects." (Learning Solutions, 8 de mayo 2018)

Do you know that passive teaching methods lead to a concept retention rate of less than 30 percent? On the other hand, participatory techniques generate retention rates of up to 90 percent. Where our traditional education system fails is that we remain largely focussed on outworn practices that keep student engagement passive, and retention at the bare minimum.

How university apps increase engagement inside the classroom

How university apps increase engagement inside the classroom | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
Students are never without their smartphones. On average, a student spends over three hours a day on their mobile devices. That time is often spent connecting with friends, family, and using a range of social networks. With that in mind, universities have a unique opportunity to take advantage of this growing trend. There’s plenty of space within those few hours a day for universities to build connections with students and drive university engagement. Unfortunately, not enough establishments are aware of just how effective mobile applications can be in improving a student’s level of engagement on not only their course, but within their whole campus.

EdTech Should Change the Way Teachers Teach

EdTech Should Change the Way Teachers Teach | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it

For a long time, teaching was teacher-centered: the teacher dispensed information through lecture, handouts, or presentations; the students absorbed the information by listening and taking notes. It was repetitive, could become monotonous, and left little room for student exploration or creativity. It was also detrimental to students who couldn’t keep pace with the teacher’s lessons or students who learned in way different from the teacher’s presentation The past ten years have seen a surge in student-centered learning, and the integration of technology into the classroom makes it increasingly easy to create engaging lessons that reach a variety of learners in …

12 Types Of Blended Learning

12 Types Of Blended Learning  | Distance Learning, mLearning, Digital Education, Technology | Scoop.it
Blended Learning is not so much an innovation as it is a natural by-product of the digital domain creeping into physical spaces.

Broadly speaking, blended learning just means a mix of learning online and face-to-face, which means it’s likely your students are already doing some form of blended learning, and have for years.

As digital and social media become more and more prevalent in the life of learners, it was only a matter of time before learning became ‘blended’ by necessity.
