We're always finding different ways to use Scoop.it, mostly coming from the intelligent community of curators that has manifested itself over the last few years.

Scoop.it Specialist @Martin (Marty) Smith wrote an explanation of how he's using Scoop.it to gauge interest in potential original content. When his posts on Scoop.it do well, he is able to see what his audience likes, and create content along the same vein.

He also explains some of the SEO benefits seen by other Scoopiteers like @Brian Yanish - MarketingHits.com.

How Google Plus Profiles & Pages Gain Search Authority

How Google Plus Profiles & Pages Gain Search Authority | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Increasing Visibility & Influence In Google Search

That means that anyone who wants to make use of Google+ as part of an overall strategy of increasing visibility and influence in Google Search should be actively pursuing all of the following tactics:

- Build a strong network within Google+. You should seek to cultivate not just a large number of followers, but more importantly, active relationships and partnerships with influential Google+ users. Their citations to your profile have a powerful effect on its authority to Google.

 - Cultivate quality links from trusted websites. Create the kind of presence on Google+ that site owners want to recommend and link to. When being interviewed or referenced by a site, ask if they would link to your Google+ profile or page for identity purposes.

 - Use Google Authorship for your content across the Web. Although this tip applies only to personal profiles, since Google Authorship involves a legitimate, Google-approved link to our profile, the more quality content you produce on trusted sites, the more authority given to your profile.

Emerging Channels Challenge SEO for Marketing Dollars

Emerging Channels Challenge SEO for Marketing Dollars | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

As more consumers switch to smart phones, emerging channels are gaining importance in a marketing space that SEO has dominated. For years, brands have used SEO strategy to market their products, but it has become harder to find as an increasing number of search results are returning unrelated content.

Also, according to one entrepreneur, in 2013 organic search results made up only 13 percent of screen space. The rest of the screen was dominated by "ads and jun"

Problems with SEO-lead strategy are only magnified as more consumers view content on mobile devices. For instance, vertical and native search on mobile is continually threatening traditional search. Google’s traditional search traffic had declined 3 percent by the end of 2012.

Startups Think Mobile First
I got this lesson at Triangle Startup Factories Fall Showcase when more than half of the "graduating" startups were MOBILE focused almost to the exclusion of content on Google.

These startups could have cared less about organic SEO. I'm not sure I would live all the way there YET but SOT (Sign of the Times) and yet another big wake up call to Google.

It is possible via app stores and direct connection into what is rapidly becoming many people's #1 digital device - their SmartPhone - to build a substantial business and have NO top ranked keywords in Google.

All things being equal I still want content in the Big G since a traffic source as valuable as that is stupid to ignore, but the brash thinking of next gen entrepreneurs DOESN'T INCLUDE GOOGLE.

Google, for these brash mobile first entrepreneurs, doesn't enter in their field of vision. They aren't worried about winning organic SEO as much as they fear bad ratings on the app store (lol).

After spending years tweaking, cajoling and pleading organic SEO I'm ready for something new and different. SEO feels played out, not worth half the time we used to put in it and OVER.

How to Search in Google: 31 Advanced Google Search Tips

How to Search in Google: 31 Advanced Google Search Tips | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it
If you’re like me, you probably use Google many times a day. But chances are, unless you're a technology geek, you probably still use Google in its simplest form. If your current use of Google is limited to typing in a few words and changing your query until you find what you’re looking for, then I’m here to tell you that there’s a better way -- and it’s not hard to learn.

On the other hand, even if you are a technology geek and can use Google like the best of them already, I still suggest you bookmark this article of advanced Google search tips. Then, you’ll then have the tips on hand when you're ready to pull your hair out in frustration watching a neophyte repeatedly type in basic queries in a desperate attempt to find something.

The following advanced Google search tips are based on my own experience and things that I actually find useful. I’ve kept the descriptions of the search tips intentionally terse, as you’re likely to grasp most of these simply by looking at the example from Google anyway.

Should You Repost Your Blog Content on Other Websites? A Data-Driven Answer

Should You Repost Your Blog Content on Other Websites? A Data-Driven Answer | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Reposting content on third-party websites has been a hot topic ever since LinkedIn started allowing members to write posts for the platform. Many people have been re-sharing their content verbatim there.

Neil Patel addresses the issue well in this post. It's backed by personal experience, which makes it a very valuable case study.

Patel offers three suggestions:

- Rewrite the content

- Talk to the site owner

- Post the content on the other site only

He also talks about the rel=canonical tag.

Very interesting!

Escape Google With These 12 Search Engine Alternatives

Escape Google With These 12 Search Engine Alternatives | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Google isn't the only game in town and isn't even the best alternative for many specific search tasks and needs. Here's how to escape Google's grip with Bing, Blekko, BuzzSumo, DuckDuckGo, SocialMention, Quantcast, Topsy, Wolfram|Alpha, and more.

As concerns over the de facto monopoly status of Google continue to grow, I'm reminded of the great philosopher Herman Cain and his infamous line  "blame yourself". As long as "Google" is a generic phrase for Internet search, their dominant position is assured. That said, you can do something about it.There are plenty of Google alternatives and many of these players offer a bettersearch experience, depending on your needs. Here are 12 alternatives to escape your reliance on Google for all things search...
