The number gets even more complicated if you consider that there are many offline marketing channels as well.
However, for most of us, the number of channels doesn’t matter.
What does matter is that there is a handful of core channels that are by far the most effective digital marketing channels.
That’s what this post is all about.
We’ll go over the six main digital marketing channels you should at least be familiar with. On top of that, I’m going to show you how to evaluate each channel to determine whether it’s worth your time....

For many, coupons have strange connotations. They're something moms cut out, or they're only used by poor folks or the elderly.
In reality, the opposites of these are true - coupons are incredibly popular among affluent folks and millennials (not to mention every other demographic), and they don't even have to be printed out anymore, so keep your scissors in the junk drawer. As these statistics reveal, the coupon is still a driving force in commerce that connects people (and their wallets) to brands. People will never tire of saving money, and brands are always looking to bring in new customers. Mix in a decade-long struggling economy, and you have a savings-savvy mindset that isn't going away anytime soon.
Enjoy this collection of coupon stats, which we plan to keep updated with the most current and relevant research on an ongoing basis. If your company has completed research into these fields that we should include, please let us know....

With content marketing, the average campaign takes at least a few months to see any real results.
You invest money upfront, but need to wait for the return.
With advertising, on the other hand, you spend money upfront, but you see the results almost immediately.
Additionally, there’s no reason why you can’t use both types of marketing....

Dive Brief:Retailers’ social media activity is far better than their websites or search engines at getting shoppers to convert or try new things, according to a report from digital marketing vendor Epsilon Data Management LLC.
For its “Digital Shopping Tool Impact Study 2015,” Epsilon looked at what prompted shoppers to try new brands and products, and the top influencers were: - retailers’ social media usage (29%) - brands’ social media usage (28%) - printable coupons (23%), - daily deal sites (22%), and friends’ social media posts (21%).
While consumers may use a retailer’s site more often, social media, apps, and even coupons are more likely to influence their shopping and decision-making in 10 areas of the shopping process, including what store they visit and their amount of unplanned purchases. The top five digital tools, according the report, are retailers’ social network posts and pages (35%), price comparison sites (35%), shopping apps (34%), brands’ social network posts and pages (33%), product reviews (33%), printable coupons (32%). ...

The posts on this blog are typically 2,000 words long. Would you honestly read them if they were nothing but text? Sure, some of you would (and that’s amazing, thank you), but I could never blame anyone for not wanting to read a giant block of text.
This is why articles that include images get 94% more total views than articles that don’t.
Remember though, that stat is just an average. If you use images well, your traffic could increase even more.
It’s a win-win: you get more pageviews, and your readers get to enjoy reading more digestible content.
While social media isn’t the same as your blog posts, it illustrates the power of great images.
Posts on Facebook that include an image get 53% more likes than posts without an image. Additionally, they also make up 93% of the most engaging posts....

In order for the model to work, however, businesses first need to develop a strong following on social media. "If you have 10,000 followers on Facebook or Instagram, hopefully you can convert 1 percent a week on sales," he says. This allows for experimentation with both product design and marketing strategy; John advises that entrepreneurs consistently play around with both, using social media to "see what works."
Time spent as both an entrepreneur in the fashion industry and a host on Shark Tank has taught John a lot about how brands can go about successfully building a loyal social media following: Here are three of his strategies....

Social media and technology have changed the way people research and buy products. Unfortunately, B2B suppliers, manufacturers, and organizations have had a hard time adapting to this new and quickly evolving reality.
With that idea in mind, the team behind digital marketing company Acquity Group surveyed 500 U.S.-based procurement officers with annual purchasing budgets of $100,000 and more to understand B2B consumers’ purchasing habits and preferences on the Web.
Here is what the 2014 State of B2B Procurement Study reveals....

Pricing pages have a huge impact on online sales. Designing the right pricing page is key to increasing checkouts and revenue, but there’s a lot more to a pricing page than its design.
Since emotions and psychological triggers influence purchasing behavior, and since consumers depend on products and services to fulfill emotional needs in their lives, pricing pages should meet those needs.
The way things are presented to people affects their decision-making. In this post, we’ll take a look at psychological triggers that influence purchasing behavior. We’ll also go over how to incorporate the triggers into pricing pages.
1. Decoy Effect According to the decoy effect, consumers have a hard time making up their minds. So, when they are given two options, they tend to prefer the first option because it looks better, even though both options could be exactly the same.
People have a noticeable change in preference according to the way choices are presented. Sometimes, using a third option helps to guide them toward a specific choice. Considering the decoy effect, make sure you offer pricing plans that lead customers to purchase the plan you want them to purchase.
Let’s take a look at The Economist’s famous pricing page to better understand how to incorporate the decoy effect into your pricing page design. The first plan costs $59 for the online version only, the second plan costs $125 for the print version only, and the third plan costs $125 for both print and online versions...

Department stores and mega-malls were among the main places for Americans to meet, socialize and, of course, shop. That’s all changed.
Department stores and other brick-and-mortar retailers registered another lackluster holiday shopping season, while online sales have remained upbeat since Cyber Monday. As more consumers spend a larger share of their dollars online, does this signal the days of shopping at department stores and shopping malls are numbered?
Cyber Monday sales this year were up 8.7 percent compared with 2013, led by a sharp increase in mobile transactions according to IBM Digital Analytics Benchmark. Sales over mobile devices jumped 29 percent . That’s a sharp contrast with the mostly bad news for brick-and-mortar stores, which saw about 6 million fewer shoppers over the Thanksgiving weekend, with overall spending down about 11 percent , according to the National Retail Federation....

The first company is not proof that social media works. That's not the issue. The issue, of course, is that social media simply "is". It's no different than the focus groups and surveys of twenty years ago. It's both marketing and customer research. It's data. It just "is". You cannot separate social media from the rest of the branding elements of the business. You can't. You cannot prove that social media works, and you cannot remove it from the business. It is not a tactic. It simply "is" the business. And customers are acquired cheaply as a result.
The second company can easily prove that social media doesn't work. They should know. They tried putting some sale messages on Twitter, and nobody responded. The second company is fully confident in their merchandising team. The second company just needs to find marketing channels to communicate the merchandising strategy to the customer. The second company is going "omnichannel". They'll ship-to-store or buy-online-pickup-in-store or get you a discount on your mobile phone when you're in the mall (if the customer ever steps foot in a mall anymore).
Retail is moving in two different directions....

When asked about major changes in social media that have taken place between his first book and today, Brian talks about creating an infographic called The Wheel of Disruption while he was writing What’s the Future of Business? The infographic showed all of the things that were disrupting industries, with an emphasis on brand, marketing and engagement.
He explains that then and now, the three things Fred Wilson once called The Golden Triangle are at the core of everything.Brian goes on to discuss how wearables, augmented reality and services like Uber, Instacart, Postmates, Amazon, Drone Delivery and Google Express are creating disruption not only on technology fronts, but also on behavioral and expectation fronts at a human level....

Reddit is a website built upon hundreds of different groups, also known as subreddits. Each subreddit has its own rules, and depending on the rules, you can either start a new thread with a link and/or a text post (links can be added inside the text). The only identifiable information to others is your username (which doesn’t even have to be your name).
Aside from your username the only other relevant element of your profile is the amount of “karma” that you have. Karma reflects the quality of the content you have provided: the upvotes or downvotes that you get for your comments and posts compromise your “karma” count. More Reddit “karma” only means that you are a trusted source and a healthy Reddit user (and not another brand spamming Reddit). There is no added benefit to your posts as someone with more “karma” versus someone with less....

You can use many methods to improve your conversion rate.
But very few can improve your conversion rate as much as case studies can.
Case studies have a few big benefits: - they resonate with prospects
- they show that your product or service can work
- the transparency increases the trust a reader has in you
All of these benefits are important, but the last one—in particular.
Trust is one of the most important factors in conversion rate optimization....

There are marketing tools that are talked about in just about every single blog post you read nowadays. The HootSuites, the Buffers, the Mozs, and alike.
While those are great tools, they are not the only ones out there. There are lots of amazing tools that are getting people results in their business, but are not getting nearly enough air time.
I decided to ask some of my favorite marketing experts what tools they use, but rarely get talked about. Unlike most surveys, this one produced 42 marketing tools from 42 experts with no repeats.
Without further ado, here are the marketing tools you should consider, from A to (almost) Z...

Above: some young people in a car, yesterday.
No wonder we're the most narcissistic, self-entitled generation ever: people just won't stop talking about #millennials.
Here's the latest new heap of s*** that pokes and prods at the hapless, buried-in-sane #GenY #millennials who are so diverse, yet so easy to speak for—a new study from perpetually hip MTV, now the Voice Of Two Generations, saying that #millennials love driving and cars and "see car ownership as a way to craft their unique adult identity," which was an actual sentence spoken by an actual sentient human being with actual free will who makes more actual money than any #millennial ever will.
"The study said 82 percent of #millennials find buying or leasing a new car 'exciting,'" in the same way they find paying for coffee with a Vine of a Macklemore concert exciting. It goes on. "The study found 87 percent of #millennials said they enjoyed customizing things to make them unique.
The study found 72 percent would rather give up texting for a week than surrender their cars. The study found 72 percent of #millennials enjoy the smell of their own farts. The study found 102 percent of #millennials think Edward Snowden is a slang word for a new type of ecstasy. The study found 369 percent of #millennials would rather give up the use of their testicles than give up the chance to use #hashtags to search for #CocaColaLife coupons on #Ello."...

With knowledge being the currency of the future, and unbiased information more accessible than ever before, it’s not surprising to see that brands are embracing simplicity and transparency as pillars of their product, messaging, and marketing strategies. A notable shift from pre-digital strategies, where information was often obfuscated and protected, changing consumer sentiment is driving this change – and products are getting better.
Amazon Elements and Target Made to Matter are two great examples of this new approach. At their core, both focus on a fundamental understanding that consumers want to know what they are buying ... from the raw ingredients that go into the products and packaging to the overall environmental impact of the manufacturing and logistics processes. And because openness was embraced from the start, both deliver innovative ways for consumers to interact with that information – including full-featured online product specs as well as scannable product codes that deliver detailed package-level information. Beyond product content, both companies have also incorporated consumer feedback into the product development process, highlighting the importance of a more collaborative, inclusive brand experience....
