6 Things People Only Do On Social Media When They’re About To Break Up | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

As with a snowstorm, there is always that feeling in the air right before someone is about to end a relationship. You may not be a part of the couple, but if you have access to them on social media, you can always kind of tell when things are about to go south really, really quickly. And while the behaviors are distinct for the future dumper and dumpee, they are traditions as old as social media itself (so, basically like 15 years old, max), and are not to be mistaken. Here, the 6 things people do when they’re totally about to break up....

8 Reasons Why the Problem With Your Company Isn’t Social Media | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

As someone who writes about social media a lot, I am often asked why a brand’s social media programs isn’t working like the business owners thinks it should be.

There is a lack of education on the topic of social media. There are also a lot of misguided social media gurus and consultants out there who believe that gaining a large number or a giant audience within the platform is the most important item to accomplish. This trickles down to the company owners and leaders. Let’s clear the air with eight reasons why the problem is not social media....

Are you blaming social media as the problem of your business? Take a harder look at your company in the mirror and you will see that the problem is not the social media program but the way the brand is being run.

Generation C: The Nine Spheres of Social Media Influence

Generation C: The Nine Spheres of Social Media Influence | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

At first glance, after two decades, the utopian dream of the World Wide Web and social media maybe seems to be over. Big Brother returns to haunt our memories, and threaten our digital identity. Information overload and the maelstrom of new technologies confront us with a form of ¨Content Shock¨ and ¨Digital Darwinism,¨ where everything is moving too fast for us.

However, looking as the other side of the coin, the new digital ecosystem is perhaps not so bad he looks. Beyond this ¨Orwellian Dystopia¨, new technologies and social media provide us with the means to better fulfill us and make us better as individuals and consumers.

Today, thanks to new technologies, we can exercise together and individually, an undeniable power over brands and organizations. Tremendous power of influence, we could not even suspect there is still a few years, and now extends to many aspects of our existence.

This is the great power of influence of ¨prosumers¨; connected consumers of what we call now the new Generation C, baby boomers generation Z....

Google introduced this term to describe the impact of online information, i.e. social media reputation, on the intent of a potential customer to engage with a brand. According to the research that influence, and consumer dependence on it,  are growing very fast from year to year.

Consumers checked 10.4 sources of information to make a decision in 2011. This is a dramatic increase from the 5.3 sources

This more recent study found that positive consumer reviews increase both intent to purchase, and product value, by about 7%.  An online share (customer review, Facebook share or tweet) has a value of between $0.33 for a brand or store recommended by a stranger, and $1.33 for brands recommended by friends or family....

When it comes to conversion, retailers should think social: report

When it comes to conversion, retailers should think social: report | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Dive Brief:Retailers’ social media activity is far better than their websites or search engines at getting shoppers to convert or try new things, according to a report from digital marketing vendor Epsilon Data Management LLC.

For its “Digital Shopping Tool Impact Study 2015,” Epsilon looked at what prompted shoppers to try new brands and products, and the top influencers were:

-  retailers’ social media usage (29%)

-  brands’ social media usage (28%)

-  printable coupons (23%),

-  daily deal sites (22%), and friends’ social media posts (21%).

While consumers may use a retailer’s site more often, social media, apps, and even coupons are more likely to influence their shopping and decision-making in 10 areas of the shopping process, including what store they visit and their amount of unplanned purchases. The top five digital tools, according the report, are retailers’ social network posts and pages (35%), price comparison sites (35%), shopping apps (34%), brands’ social network posts and pages (33%), product reviews (33%), printable coupons (32%). ...

How to Respond to People on Twitter: A Simple Guide for Businesses [Infographic]

How to Respond to People on Twitter: A Simple Guide for Businesses [Infographic] | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it
Thanks to Twitter, businesses are closer to consumers than ever before. Tweets haven't replaced phone calls and handwritten letters, but they've become a popular way for consumers to vocalize their questions, praise, or complaints -- all in plain view of anyone who can find the conversation online.

But customers don't just expect you to read their tweets about you -- they also expect you to reply. According to charts published on Search Engine Watch, 70% of surveyed Twitter users expect a response from brands they reach out to on Twitter. Of those users, 53% want that response in under an hour.

It's important to have a solid strategy for responding to tweets so you can keep your customers happy and drive engagement on Twitter. Should you include a link in your response? How much punctuation (?, !) should you use? Are emoticons off the table?

To help inform your Twitter response strategy, LeadSift gathered data on answers to these questions and more, and culminated them into the visual below. Consider this data in the context of your own brand voice and what you know about your buyers' behavior to develop an action plan when responses come rolling in. And hurry -- your customers are waiting.

The Top 7 Social Media Marketing Trends That Will Dominate 2015

The Top 7 Social Media Marketing Trends That Will Dominate 2015 | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

It’s that time again: When I look ahead to 2015 to predict social media marketing trends we can expect over the coming year. If you want to see what I predicted for 2014 (and whether those predictions came true), you can do so here:

- The Top 7 Social Media Trends That Will Dominate 2014 (written Sept 2013)

But without further ado, here are my top 7 social media marketing predictions for 2015!...

Via Jeff Domansky
Kayla Childress's curator insight, November 23, 2014 11:51 PM

This article discusses in detail the predictions of social media in 2015 and which platforms will be most successful in comparison to others, and which will grow. The first platform discussed is Ello. "Their website states: “Collecting and selling your personal data, reading your posts to your friends, and mapping your social connections for profit is both creepy and unethical. Under the guise of offering a “free” service, users pay a high price in intrusive advertising and lack of privacy.” The next point discussed was Facebook ad and pricing demand will increase. Thirdly, Twitter's new business advertising will sky rocket in popularity. Google+ will fade into obscurity. Instagram will become essential for those companies that base a lot of their marketing off of image based social media. Sixth, LinkedIn will widen it's gap as the B2B platform. And finally, social media will become a core necessity for online marketing. I would have to agree with a majority of the points made throughout the article besides Ello becoming more popular. As it approaches the end of 2014 people are still incredibly active on Facebook; I think Ello may take a little longer to evolve into a heavier platform that is used amoungst the general public and companies trying to marketing there products and services.

Stephen Daniels's curator insight, November 24, 2014 10:38 AM

2014 has brought about some new trends in terms of how business are using social media and I expect even more new trends to emerge in 2015. One of these expected trends is the rise of Ello, expected to go head to head with Facebook. Ello offers a social media experience much like Facebook, but offers a promise of an ad free experience. I think that this is a great feature that will bring a lot a Facebook users to the platform. It will be interesting to see if the platform can allow users to create the same engaging content as Facebook and other social media sites without incorporating advertisements. I think that if they can achieve this it has the chance to take over the social media giant Facebook.

Shaquille Portee's curator insight, November 24, 2014 10:59 AM

I found this article to be insightful. Forbes breaks down what to expect in the upcoming year as far as trends in social media marketing goes. For instance, companies that advertise on Facebook are expected to see an increase in pricing. They also predict that the google plus platform will "fade into obscurity", which is no surprise. With 200 million users monthly instagram will become essential for image based social media marketing.

Chanel Got 1.8 Million Instagram Followers Virtually out of Nowhere

Chanel Got 1.8 Million Instagram Followers Virtually out of Nowhere | e-commerce & social media | Scoop.it

Chanel posted its first Instagram photos and videos Monday and already has 1.8 million followers. The images-based digital platform doesn't allow users to see exactly when companies or people join it—like Twitter does—but it appears that the brand opened its account some time ago, built up a considerable backing organically and then finally saw fit to post content. An email inquiry to the Paris-based company went unanswered.

As The New York Observer reported, the posts were born from a campaign party Chanel threw Monday for its new TV spot starring supermodel Gisele Bundchen. The brand's first Instagram post was a video (see below) that features a brief snippet of the commercial and garnered nearly 40,000 likes. Chanel's social marketing team then followed up with eight photographs from the soirée that collectively drew 158,000 likes....

There’s no way to put this delicately, so I’ll be blunt: quantifying the financial benefits of an enterprise social network is turning your company -- and the entire social technology industry -- into a three ring circus.   The ongoing demands of individual executives, archaic software evaluation processes and an obsessive focus on employees as productivity centers instead of human beings have turned collaboration into chaos, and social analytics into a spectator sport.
