5 Ways Student Can Create Audio Slideshows - FreeTech4Teachers

5 Ways Student Can Create Audio Slideshows - FreeTech4Teachers | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Somewhere between a PowerPoint presentation and a full-fledged video is the audio slideshow. Creating audio slideshows can be a good way to add meaning to slides that otherwise might not mean much without a presenter. Here are some ways that students can create audio slideshow."

Beth Dichter's insight:

Are you looking for new tools that students may use to create slideshows that may also include audio? Richard Byrne has come up with five recommendations. The names are below and more information is available in his post.

* Narrable - currently this site does not have educator accounts, but the FAQ states "excited that teachers are using Narrable in the classroom and we're working closely with educators to develop features and accounts specifically for your needs."

* UTellStory - this site does offer a free account. If you want an educator account (which allows for 50 student accounts) there is a fee.

* Present.me - they also offer a free account, or education account (not free)

* Hello Slide- free accounts are available as well as paid

* Animoto - there is an account for educators that is free as well as paid accounts

How to Create YouTube Photo Slideshows - A Good Alternative to Animoto

How to Create YouTube Photo Slideshows - A Good Alternative to Animoto | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Animoto is an excellent tool for creating audio slideshows. But there are some limitations to it that some teachers don't like. Most notable of those limitations is the time limit (30 seconds unless you get an Animoto for Education account), lack of space for text, and that students have to remember a username and password to use it. The YouTube slideshow tool provides a tool for creating audio slideshows without those three limitations of Animoto."

Beth Dichter's insight:

If you are looking for an alternative to Animoto to use with students to create photo slideshows check out YouTubePhoto Slideshows. YouTube allows you to create videos up to 15 minutes in length and you may specify how long a slide is shown. There is also an annotation tool to add text. For those folks whom use Google Apps for Eduation students already have a user name and log-in. Richard Byrne provides directions (with screen shots) to walk you through the process.

Heather Ramsey's curator insight, April 12, 2013 12:52 PM

This page shows how to use YouTube for slideshows so that they are longer and more accessible to students that other sites like Animoto. I had no idea that YouTube had this capability. In my district, YouTube is blocked on campus computers (I'm sure many others can sympathize) so I would need to work around that if I had students using this in a lesson. Recently I began to use SlideRocket to create video lessons so that I can incorporate audio narration and the link is not blocked by the district's web filter. SlideRocket could be used for a slideshow as well, but it takes a lot more customizing than this YouTube method. This blog has a ton of other useful information too. Kudos to the writer!

7 of the Best Audio and Video Tools for Teachers

7 of the Best Audio and Video Tools for Teachers | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
These seven great audio and video tools for teachers and students can make your classroom and curriculum a whole lot more vivid and engaging.
Beth Dichter's insight:

This post provides some great audio and video tools that you might consider using with students. We know that students are engaged when multimedia comes into the classroom...and what better way to engage them than to have them become creators through the use of multimedia.

Learn about tools such as:

* Matterhorn, a free tool that "enables teachers to create recordings of lectures and classes." Are you thinking of flipping your class? If so you should check out this tool.

* Jing - another free tool that allows you to capture what is happening on the screen of your computer and then share it with others. How about having students demonstrate ways to solve math problems, and post them online?

* Splicd - Is that YouTube video too long? Determine which section you want and grab that specific section. Save it to your hard drive and you ready to go...without taking time to fast foward to the necessary section.

* UJam - Another free tool this one allows you to create and remix music and film.

Three more tools are listed in the post so click through to check them out!
