8 Important Questions About Technology and Learning | Edudemic

8 Important Questions About Technology and Learning | Edudemic | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
There are so many different challenges that technology integration in the classroom presents teachers. From budgets to hesitant parents to broken devices and totally re-vamping your lesson plans and constantly tweaking with lots of trial and error. It can be fun, hugely rewarding, and a big giant headache, too. But just because it can be …
Beth Dichter's insight:

This post links to a video by Paul Hamilton, Technology in Education. In this 4 minute video Hamilton asks 8 questions that we may want to share with our community, be it our staff, our parents, or the broader community, to begin a dialogue that is lacking in many school districts. Three of the questions he raises are below. Take the time to click through to the post to read the other 5, and if possible find the time to watch this video.

* What do we ant technology to do in schools?

* Are we asking the right questions about technology, learning, and schools?

* Is the way we are using technology now turning our students 'off' to the people and the world around them?

The Inside-Out School: A 21st Century Learning Model

The Inside-Out School: A 21st Century Learning Model | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
Beth Dichter's insight:

There are many learning models that we may explore, and this one is presented a bit differently than others I have seen. Quoting from the post "The goal of the model is simple enough–not pure academic proficiency, but instead authentic self-knowledge, diverse local and global interdependence, adaptive critical thinking, and adaptive media literacy."

There are nine domains in this model (listed below) and the post provides additional information.

* Five Learning Actuators

* Changing Habits

* Transparency

* Self-Initiated Transfer

* Mentoring and Community

* Changing Roles

* Climate of Assessment

* Thought and Abstraction

* Expanding Literacies

The Educational Cartoon Everyone Should Be Talking About | Edudemic | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Have you always wanted to visit a fictional coastal town, populated by rain boots? OK, me neither until now, but the animated children’s series Rainboot Cove definitely makes me wish I could spend some time there!

Rainboot Cove is an educational website that uses video, games, and quizzes in fun and unusual ways to explore language, history, and community. The meaning of various words is explored in the stories told about the town, and history is explored by finding similarities between themes found locally, and events in the past."

First Class Ice Breakers Using Mobile Devices | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

All of my classes, regardless of student age or demographics – elementary gifted students or graduate students, begin with ice-breakers and team-building activities. I recently developed a passion for using students’ mobile devices to do so as this devices have become natural and personalized extensions of students’ “selves."

It is a very reliable website used daily by everybody whether or not they're producers. I think this relates to my topic because it is one of the widely used social networks in the business for artists to show music.

A General Guide For Creating Open Content | FunnyMonkey

A General Guide For Creating Open Content | FunnyMonkey | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"In our experience working with people and communities around open content, one of the misconceptions we see regularly is that the process of creating open content differs from creating content that is not openly licensed. Fortunately, content is content; and if you have ever created a resource for use in your class, a piece of documentation, a video, a podcast, a blog post, shared a picture online, etc, then you have done the same type of work you will need to do to release openly licensed content."

Beth Dichter's insight:

Are you interested in creating open source content but have questions about what you need to do? This post provides insight that may help you create open content. Sections include:

* Defining the scope

* Collecting resources

* Checking licenses

* Finalizing the working outline

* Writing and/or curating

* Assembling the work

* Editing

* Publishing

* Understanding that open content is only partially about content
