101 Ways For Teachers To Be More Creative

101 Ways For Teachers To Be More Creative | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Creativity isn’t always something that just happens. It can take quite a bit of work to nurture, grow, and develop creativity, even for those who are immersed in creative and dynamic fields.

For educators, it can be even more of a challenge to inspire creativity in students or embrace your own creativity while trying to juggle academic requirements, testing, and other issues in the classroom. It may be difficult but it’s certainly not impossible, and accomplishing it can help to create a classroom environment that’s more motivational, interesting, and educational for both you and your students."

Beth Dichter's insight:

Are you looking for ideas on how to be more creative in your classroom? Check out this list from Te@chThought. It is divided into the areas listed below.

Why not parents and managers too, ?  Be creative in all things. I like #19, but would flip it to say "treat you business as a classroom".

Students As Creators: How To Drive Your Students To Be More Than Just Consumers

Students As Creators: How To Drive Your Students To Be More Than Just Consumers | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
One trend we are going to see in education that hasn't received much discussion yet is the shift from students as consumers to students as creators. This
Beth Dichter's insight:

Today many of our students are consumers, yet Common Core would like them to be more creative. What can we do as teachers to help our students become more creative?

This post begins with an exploration of research that has taken place in this area. Below is one quote from the post.

Love this one!

Affirmation-the inquiry process (which includes creativity and so many other HOT skills) is so important even for our youngest learners.  It's so important they work through the process and create something to show their learning at the end!  It may be a challenge, but the risk is worth it!

Let's not forget...Creativity=important leadership quality!

Part 4… Creativity In The Digital Classroom… Amazing Web Sites... Are They In Your School?

Part 4… Creativity In The Digital Classroom… Amazing Web Sites... Are They In Your School? | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

“So many times we encourage students to be creative, but we don’t always provide an explanation nor assessment. I think it is important to provide a definition. You can see that Dictionary.com defines creativity as ‘the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations, etc.; originality, progressiveness, or imagination: the need for creativity in modern industry; creativity in the performing arts’.”

Beth Dichter's insight:

This is the last in a series of posts on Creativity in the Classroom, with a focus on websites that help promote creativity. Included in this post are:

* Arts Edge, a wonderful source from the Kennedy Arts Center that "offers free, standards-based teaching materials for use in and out of the classroom. It also offers professional development resources, student materials, and guidelines for arts-based instruction and assessment."

* Exploratorium - "a twenty-first-century learning laboratory, an eye-opening, always-changing, playful place to explore and tinker"

* Google Lit Trips - a great way to explore literature and Google Earth

* Odyssey of the Mind - "an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college."

* Diffen - a website that allows you to compare anything

An additional ten websites are listed that provide a range of online learning opportunities that help promote creativity!
