8 Steps To Great Digital Storytelling - Edudemic

8 Steps To Great Digital Storytelling - Edudemic | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"Stories bring us together, encourage us to understand and empathize, and help us to communicate. Long before paper and books were common and affordable, information passed from generation to generation through this oral tradition of storytelling. Consider Digital Storytelling as the 21st Century version of the age-old art of storytelling with a twist: digital tools now make it possible for anyone to create a story and share it with the world."

Beth Dichter's insight:

This post not only provides eight steps to help you create digital stories, it provides resources for every step along the way.

After a brief look at why digital stories the post provides six ideas of what makes a great digital story. They "are personal, begin with a story/script, are concise, use readily available source materials, include universal story elements and involve collaboration at multiple levels."

It continues by providing a detailed look at each step which include ideas of ways to work with students in each step plus there links to many resources throughout the post.

Digital storytelling is a great tool to use with the Common Core standards, and this post will provide you with great ideas and resources!

The Evolution of Workplace Technology - Infographic

The Evolution of Workplace Technology - Infographic | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

“Workplace technology has evolved dramatically since the first stone tools were used 2.6 million years ago. Back then the amount of information our brains had to process was minimal...as workplace technology advanced through the ages this data increased dramatically, culminating in the digital age & information overload we are faced with today…Can new technology which visualizes information provide a solution…?”
From a Data Digest Report published by Mindjet:
The initial study included 2,000 office workers. A “scientific sample of 12 participants that took part in the study over 4 days were fully conversant with all tested software…the research investigated differences in individual & team performance using visual mapping software compared to traditional office software.”
The experiment results of the individual tasks found:
* On an individual level, workers using visual mapping techniques used on average nearly 20% less cognitive resources compared to when using equivalent traditional software…
* Participants using visual mapping software were 17% more productive...and able to recall 4.5 per cent more details…
Group results
* Groups collaborating on a project used on average 10% less cognitive resources…
* By using visual mapping software, groups were 8% more productive…
* Participants working in groups were able to recall 6.5% more data when using visual mapping compared with traditional techniques…
The study may be accessed through a link on the infographic page.

A Primer on Visual Note-Taking

A Primer on Visual Note-Taking | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

Note taking...something we want our students to do, and often it is taught as a study skill as an outline. But many of our students are visual learners. This post explores using mind maps and doodling as forms of note taking.
Research has shown that mind mapping works well "as a tool for organization, comprehension, and note-taking."

Doodling also works well for many visual learners. This post quotes Temple Grandin "the world needs all kinds of minds." If a student thinks in pictures doodling allows them to visualize connections. More information on this is in the post as are links to a number of resources.

This scoop post describes note taking, attention and study skills for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder and how the relationship with learning, listening and note taking affects the educational outcomes for students on the spectrum.  The video continues with an exploration of visual imaging as a form of notetaking.
