Making A Change - The First Amendment & the Civil Rights Movement

Making A Change - The First Amendment & the Civil Rights Movement | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it

"This learning module explores how the First Amendment shaped the civil rights movement. Delve into hundreds of historical newspapers, videos, photographs and more to find out how the five freedoms empowered people fighting for change — and those fighting against it. Individuals young and old, black and white, male and female, rich and poor became part of this movement. Some of their efforts succeeded; some failed. But everyone involved shared the belief that their voices and actions, supported by the First Amendment, had the power to change the nation."

Beth Dichter's insight:

Newseum has just released a new moduel that explores the First Amendment and the Civil Rights Movement. You will find:

* An interactive timeline featuring videos, photographs and front pages from a variety of historical newspapers

* A media map, allowing you to compare the front page of newspapers from across the country

* Multimedia panels looking at contemporary civil rights issues

* Standards designed lesson plans

This website will help students historical thinking, media literacy and civic engagement. Students may also submit their work for display in the Digital Classroom.

How to make RSA Animate style videos with your class… : Blogush

How to make RSA Animate style videos with your class… : Blogush | Eclectic Technology | Scoop.it
Beth Dichter's insight:

Are you interested in having your students create an RSA Animate style video? If so, this post is for you...and if you're not sure click through to the post to find links to ones at the RSA Animate site as well as one that students created.

The author also raises a critical point: "Don’t just slap on a piece of technology, or in this case an RSA style video at the end just because you can.  It won’t magically make your unit breathtakingly awesome.  You really have to start off by asking why?  Why is this tool or method necessary for the success of this unit?"

For a look at why he chose to have students create an RSA Animate type video, or to learn how to do it in your classroom read on.

Beth Dichter's insight:

Technology changes at such a rapid rate that it is tough to look ahead and envision where it will be in five years let alone fifty years...but that is what this infographic does. This timeline focuses on digital and mobile as well as big data, and references are provided for the information.
Check it out and see if you agree or disagree.

Gary Faust's curator insight, May 22, 2013 10:01 PM

Very interesting. Product development is possible, but the human brain has capabilities that a computer sill not surpass in that time. I doubt we understand the human brain sufficiently at this time to speculate about a computer's comparitive ability. Good ideas for science fiction writers, though.
