I previously published 21 Digital Tools to Build Vocabulary which has been widely read and quite popular with educators.

This infographic provides 21 digital tools that help build vocabulary. It is split into the following sections:

* Reference Tools

* Word Clouds
* Games and Reviews

* Word Walls and More

Why use digital tools?  Here are a few reasons (and there are many more). They allow students to hear spoken words; often words are acccompanied with images, providing a deeper understanding; students may play and manipulate words; and create virtual word walls. We are told to personalize instruction today and digital tools help us do that. Teaching vocabulary is critical and these tools will provide you with resources for a range of students. This is really great.  It is very helpful for students, particularly those whose first language is not English and are learning subjects in the UK.

The digital tools listed in this post are focused on vocabulary instruction, a key concern given the Common Core State Standards. Vocabulary comes into play when we look at reading, writing, speaking and listening. Students need to have a broad vocabulary, and we can support this through both direct and indirect instruction. This post provides links to online tools in the areas of:

* Word Walls and Virtual Field Trips
