Gotbrainy

Gotbrainy | EdTech Tools | Scoop.it
Patty Ball's insight:

"Got Brainy features two sections; Brainy Flix and Brainy Pics. Brainy Pics is comprised of images that demonstrate the meaning of a word. Most of the pictures are submitted by students. Brainy Flix is comprised of short videos that illustrate the meaning of words. Just like with Brainy Pics, most of the videos are submitted by students."

Find out how strong your vocabulary is and learn new words at Vocabulary.com. | EdTech Tools | Scoop.it
Vocabulary.com helps you learn new words, play games that improve your vocabulary, and explore language.
Patty Ball's insight:

ocabulary.com is an invaluable source of vocabulary for advanced learners, particularly adult learners who have reached a language plateau they can’t seem to get out of. Under Vocabulary Lists they have words that relate specifically to today’s news and current events. A great complement if you wish to discuss current events with students.

How many words do you know? | Word Dynamo | EdTech Tools | Scoop.it
I've just received my Word Score, an estimate of the total number of words I know. How many words do you know?
Patty Ball's insight:

online resource for advanced vocabulary review. Powered by Dictionary.com, WordDynamo offers lots of different ways in which students can practice and review vocabulary, from matching games to crossword puzzles and flashcards. The site is not specifically tailored to ESL students, so most of the vocabulary may be too advanced, but I always recommend this resource to students who are planning to take the TOEFL as there are exercises that are specifically targeted to this group. For your less advanced ESL students, I’d recommend checking out the Elementary School level lists - they may offer just the right amount of challenge to beginner/intermediate ESL students.

Teaching without Words: A Must See Ted Talk ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning

Teaching without Words: A Must See Ted Talk ~ Educational Technology and Mobile Learning | EdTech Tools | Scoop.it
Patty Ball's insight:

interesting TED talk  - teaching without words

Ricochet Partners's curator insight, March 5, 2013 4:58 PM

What did you think about when you first read Teaching without Words ? Probably a voice inside you shouted out-loud : No way, this can't be possible! Well this is what mine did. I too was taken aback by the weirdness of this question because for me teaching always equals talking, communication using both oral, visual and written code. Words are the primary tools we use to convey meanings , of course there are non verbal tools as well but particularly in formal educational settings like schools and classrooms, words take the lion share of our language. Can you imagine yourself delivering a lesson with no words in it ? will it work? Well Peterson has an answer.
