While cutting the long summer holidays would help working parents, it may not be so great for teachers who need to plan and do professional development, and kids who need a rest.

Comment: It's time to put some heat on the debate about when schools take holidays.
Peter Mellow's insight:
The 'Summer Slide' (see link below) is a phenomenon that we should consider as well as the comfort of our children while they are studying. I do feel for NZ kids, as many classrooms do not have Air-con. When I moved to Perth 7 years ago, I was amazed at how almost all school classrooms had Air-con. But then again, in Perth it is an essential!
