Most definitely agree! Instructors need to develop online community/social skills as part of their teaching competency repertoire to help shape relationships with students. Creating and engaging and collaborative community fosters many of the teaching competencies identified by Penn State World Campus and Principles of Good Practice (Chickering & Gamson).
