Writing well-researched content containing over 1,200+ words is often a requirement to gain a higher position in Google search results. When trying to score more points with SEO, web writers often forget that it’s not a search engine that reads posts, but a human being.
Peter Mellow's insight:
While this article is about writing and formatting web posts, a lot of the ideas can be applied to formatting material in an LMS as well.

Using the LMS

Every instructor can expect their college will provide a course shell on the learning management system they support. The shell may be largely empty, or it may be completely filled with the materials for the course, or it may be partially filled. Student are likely to be enrolled in your course shell without the instructor’s intervention; this is accomplished by programs and scripts that share information between the school student information system and the learning management system.

10 Basics that Students Want from the LMS, and How to Help Faculty Implement Them - By Rhea Kelly

10 Basics that Students Want from the LMS, and How to Help Faculty Implement Them - By Rhea Kelly | Digital Learning - beyond eLearning and Blended Learning | Scoop.it

At Ohio State University, students developed a list of 10 ways that instructors can use the learning management system more effectively — common-sense guidelines that aim to make courses more consistent, predictable, easier to navigate and generally more student-friendly. We spoke with Sam Craighead, associate director of professional learning in Ohio State's Office of Technology and Digital Innovation, about understanding the student perspective, supporting faculty with research-based practices, and the impact of instructional design on student success.

1-Upload the course syllabus to the LMS and provide it as a downloadable file.

2-Upload assignments with instructions and clear due dates.

3-Enter grades into the LMS when grading is complete.

4-Use a consistent mode of communication and mention it in class.

5-Organize course materials into modules according to content matter.

6-Remove unused tabs or pages from the course navigation.

7-Organize the course homepage with instructor contact information. 8-Utilize clear and consistent naming conventions for assignments and files.

9-Use Open Educational Resources when feasible.

10-Leverage the resources and support that are available from the university.

From the University of Ohio, this is a podcast giving out 10 of the things students want in an LMS. This is also an important tool for LMS developers and it would be something to take notice of. If properly used then this would help create a truly amazing LMS.

The Future of Learning Platforms: LMS and Video to Share Top Billing - By Phil Hill

Last week I led a webinar for Contact North, a nonprofit corporation funded by the government of Ontario, that was meant as an update to last year’s session on the LMS. For this update I took a broader look at learning platforms in general, and how the LMS might have to share center stage moving forward, as the changes driven by Pandemic lockdowns have changed adoption patterns in a significant way. Whether you love it or hate it (or are somewhere in between), video platforms are likely here to stay and not just a sideshow. To best understand the changes, the core argument of the webinar is that you need to look at user adoption – the human and social issues involved – even more than the technology roadmaps of the platforms. This is a topic I’ve mentioned in several panel discussions and notes to our EdTech Market Analysis subscribers, but I build out the argument more fully in this webinar.

Not to be confused with Coursera, Coursemodo is a new interactive learning management system emerging from stealth mode today which focuses on student engagement in the classroom.

Currently, that platform includes four key components: a web-enabled application which can be used from any Internet-connected device, including phones, tablets or computers; a polling feature for getting instant feedback from students; a quizzes feature which supports instant grading an export to a teacher’s preferred LMS, and an announcements feature for teacher-student communication which extends outside of course hours through SMS messaging.
