"YouTube is undoubtedly the top video website online. The stats I have recently read are really amazing; 60 hours of video are uploaded every minute with over 3 billion pageviews per day. It also has thousands of channels ranging from technology to Laugh and Gags. Given the important of YouTube as a primary source of video content, Educational Technology and Mobile Learning has dedicated a whole section to reviewing educational tools and tips teachers and students can use to maximize their benefit from YouTube. In this regard, I have selected some of the popular tools I have already reviewed here and compiled them in a list that is handy for any teacher or educator to check whenever time permits."

 

KF:  Many if these tools allow you to focus student attention on specific parts of the video content, others provide ways to improve the video experience - another way of raising the level of engagement.

Traditional American universities are suddenly running scared of YouTube, Xconomy reports, along with Vimeo, 5min, iTunes U, TED and the Internet Archive.

Without YouTube, Sal Khan and Khan Academy could never have reached his 4 million unique viewers a month with their 3,200 videos, viewed 170 million times.

We have devised an interactive curriculum aimed to support teachers of secondary students (approximately ages 13-17). The curriculum helps educate students on topics like:

- YouTube’s policies

- How to report content on YouTube

- How to protect their privacy online

- How to be responsible YouTube community members

- How to be responsible digital citizens

We hope that students and educators gain useful skills and a holistic understanding about responsible digital citizenship, not only on YouTube, but in all online activity.
