How do we prevent boys from giving up on reading as they age? Stephanie Brown shares her tips on how to nurture your sons love of reading into adulthood.
In my experience with two boys, don't underestimate screen reading. Most of the Internet is still text based and if they want to find out things or do research for school they can chew through a fair number of words. Also encourage the reading of digital books on portable devices like tablets. Let them buy a book from Amazon for their Kindle app on their tablet, or a book from the iBook store. There are a number of very good free books in the iBook store, and Amazon lets you download the first chapter of almost every book to see if you like it first before buying it. Show them that, and then let them convince you to buy the whole book after they have read the first chapter.
