The TUC wants a clampdown on 'sham' self-employment in the gig economy, arguing that many of the jobs in the gig economy aren't really self-employed at all.
I'd have to agree - I think that in many cases it's a 21st century form of tax avoidance. |
A little story on the BBC website highlights the fact that workers in the gig economy aren't having it all their own way. In this case, they've lost the right to collective bargaining via trade unions because of the nature of their employee-employer relationship.
This is part of a bigger package of issues associated with workers' rights in this sector.
