We've never really been any good at infrastructure spending, and this article looks at why that the case, with input from a range of people, not least Sir John Armitt, chairman of the National Infrastructure Commission. Â In part, it's the nature of our politics. However, the economic effects of this underspending are adverse and if we are going to maintain our global competitiveness, it's something that he UK will have to tackle. |

The expansion of Heathrow is controversial - and I'm unlikely to see its completion but this is the masterplan. The addition of a third runway and other associated changes are likely to boost potential growth, but environmentalists will argue that Britain won't be able to hit its climate change targets as a result.
