This is madness. I went to Snowbird recently and I heard this was indeed the way ski patrols organized it. When an ungroomed run is secured from avalanches they’ll drop the rope and let in the dozens of riders who’ve been waiting for that signal. Crazy.

We've had sensors for golf and tennis: here's the ski version. Concept explained in this video and website at carv.ai. I was a bit skeptical at first that this would be just for beginners but the part on racing in interesting.

This is a video my friend Claude posted after he got caught in an avalanche 5 years ago. Everybody made it safely but things could have ended badly. This is a good reminder of some basic safety rules, among which having beacons and ABS bags of course but also keeping safe distances. The video clearly shows that if they had been packed, skiing at 10 meters from one another, they'll have been all caught in the same batch.

@Vincent Bronner - Pas eu l'occasion d'aller à Cham depuis 5 ans mais je skie avec des Camox freeride (à Val d'Isère) donc je connais bien les Black Crows :-)
