We present a sheathless, microfluidic imaging flow cytometer incorporating stroboscopic
illumination for blur-free analysis of single cells at throughputs in excess of 50,000
cells/s. The imaging platform is capable of accurate sizing and multi-parametric quantification
of both large and heterogeneous cell populations. We demonstrate the efficacy of the
approach through the performance of ultra-high-throughput apoptosis detection and
cell-cycle analysis. Such an imaging flow cytometry platform transforms the utility
of traditional fluorescent cytometers through the addition of morphological information
at high throughput, which will potentially allow for large-scale phenotypic characterization
analysis.
