French Designer Matali Crasset on Her Concrete Collection | Gender and art | Scoop.it

The French designer Matali Crasset has built a highly successful career in a profession dominated by men. There are other prominent women designers, but their numbers are small, and Ms. Crasset, 47, whose signature mushroom-cap hair style has led some to call her the Joan of Arc of design, has created a special niche marked by a rigorous aesthetic. She began her career in 1991 in the office of the Italian designer Denis Santachiara. Two years later, she went to work for Philippe Starck on high-tech projects for Thomson, the consumer electronics company. She set up her business in 1998.
