How 3D Printing Actually Works

Now that 3D printing — the process of making three-dimensional solid objects from digital designs — is available and affordable to individual consumers, it's piqued a lot of interest across the tech space in the past few years.

From scale models, gifts and clothing to prosthetic limbs, hearing aids and the prospect of 3D-printed homes, the possibilities seem endless.

In many ways, this Fellow-year has been a treasure hunt. The guiding question has been "Where are the richest opportunities for authentic, engaged, student-centered learning?"  By extension, which ...

Interestingly, one of the most exciting approaches I’ve come across has a humble origin: the process associated with design. “Design Thinking” is a process, a framework, a series of steps that designers go through in order to solve problems, to improve existing ideas, or to realize previously unseen potential.

===> In short, it’s a deliberate  process that can be used to increase curiosity, creativity, and critical-thinking. <===

There are pockets of teachers who do see how important this is. I can understand the pressure of teaching to the test though. Senior management in schools need to take responsibility to make this change. Teachers don't understand the social networking tool so difficult to teach....that's what I'm here/there for :)

Europe - What do we celebrate on 9th May?

Europe - What do we celebrate on 9th May? | Design, Science and Technology | Scoop.it

9th May is Europe Day. It involves all of the citizens of the EU because it celebrates the declaration delivered on 9th May 1950 by Robert Schuman. On that day five years after the end of the Second World War French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman made the initial appeal for the construction of Europe.

This declaration announced the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC). During the European Council in Milan in 1985 the heads of State and government decided to set 9th May as "Europe Day".

Celebrated each year since 1986, Europe Day is the occasion for events and celebrations that draws Europe closer to its citizens.

Self-Directed Learning Well Explained and 27 Actions

Self-Directed Learning Well Explained and 27 Actions | Design, Science and Technology | Scoop.it

TeachThought.com has a series of posts about self-directed learning by Terry Heick and the staff, well worth a read! “

“Learning is most effective when it’s personalised; it means something to the learner. That happens when people feel they are participants and investors in their own learning, shaping what and how they learn, and able to articulate its value to them.” — Leadbeater, Charles

Definitely well worth a read

Avery's curator insight, March 25, 2013 11:56 PM

My Thoughts:

You can't teach someone how to learn. You can give them helpful tips and advice, but a single structure for education is not going to work for everyone. It's so much harder for people to learn their true potential, to reach their goals, when they're only shown a single path to them. You show them the path through the forest, but what if there's a rock face nearby that also leads up to where they want to go, and what if they happen to be a fantastic rock climber? It just makes more sense to show someone a map if you can, instead of directing them towards only one path.

THE OFFICIAL ANDREASCY's curator insight, March 30, 2013 2:58 PM
