Universities need to "build relationships with industry to continue the dialogue and show the value in things where we’re going to see an increase in use. We really need to have industry derive the relevance of what we’re doing in this space. As the issuers of microcredentials then need to come together around their validation, consistency and portability."

The takeaway from this study: "Non-degree credentials — such as licenses, badges, certificates or professional certifications — can offer more affordable and flexible pathways to economic opportunity through higher education. They also provide opportunities for workers to nimbly add new skills to their tool belts to meet workforce demands."
